Climate Change (oh no not again)

Yup, a redirect to the beginning of this thread - And then the latest "prolefeed" a la INGSOC: "Ocean levels rose 60% in the past twenty years" - If that was the case, I would have had to leave Hawaii before 2009. I lived for many years at an elevation of 50 cm above sea level. Never once experienced any inundation by rising sea levels.

The latest figure I have found on sea levels (by the green brigade) is that they have risen 1/2 an inch in the last ten years. (1) is that accurate? (2) there are other factors that effect sea levels apart from quantity of water in the seas and (3) where the measurements are taken.

Okay, so the snow went away and it's sunny again.
Here in the Niagara Peninsula, with all the rivers and canals,
for both shipping, new and old, and hydro, new and old,
there's no worry about flooding or rising water levels.
I saw some guys surfing offa Point Abino last week,
while I was bike-hiking along the Lake Erie shore.
Give it a couple years and I might be picking pineapples while I'm at it.

Yeah, here it is, halfway through December, and the sun is shining and there's no snow or ice,
not even close to freezing, so I'm walking around more and grabbing computer time here and there.
And yes, I'm still in Canada, near Niagara Falls.
During my long distance bike-hikes around the Niagara Peninsula, I've been asking "Where are the bugs",
because I'm not seeing a lot or getting hit while I pedal through a huge international migratory route.
I even saw a cardinal in the courthouse parking lot, walking on the curbs in front of parked cars,
pecking away at what was caught underneath, not one of my best sitings.
It's a good thing this is an affluent area, Santa having a helicopter an easy sell.
Yeah, I can only offer a half-hearted Christmas wish for you. Sigh.
I might as well get the snorkel set on sale and forget cross-country.
However, freeze-dried, shrunken pears and apples are getting on my diet,
for me, right up there with ice wine, just non-alcoholic,
and the extremes of freezing and melting means sapsicle time too.

Latest figures reveal that global warming is not nearly as bad as was thought and will have stopped by 2017. Also shows that the measures taken in England to reduce it count for absolutely sod all as India, China and the USA produce thousands of times more pollution than we do. Al it does is make our industry un competitive and squeeze the household budgets without any discernible effect.

I'd watch my repetitive use of question marks if I was you,
or someone might think they could put up a windfarm behind your place.

One of my favorite English trivias is,
by the late 1700's there wasn't a big enough tree left in England to make a ship's mast.
All that wood-burning and empire building was the first cause of man-made global warming.

Burning wood is carbon neutral. Wood only releases as much carbon when you burn it as it uses when it is growing. As for the lack of trees in the 1700s. Poppycock. A lot of England was forested around that time despite the changes in agriculture.

Incidentially the total population of England and Wales was approximately 5.2 million at the time. Hardly overpopulated.

Yet they advocate it as a Carbon sink and even when left rotting it releases carbon

I'm going to be breathing some of that carbon myself today.
It's not easy, deciding whether to go out busking this second week of January,
here in the Niagara Peninsula, Canada,
or go for a long distance bike-hike.
All the snow melted, the sun is shining, nice and warm.
That must mean the NHL has resumed play.

John, go for the long distance bike hike; you can always busk {?} later on. As far as I know, unfortunately the NHL is still out.

When I type NHL action, I'm mostly referring to social activities around me.
Guys getting together to watch a game is a drinking party holdover from high school days,
and it's not nice sometimes, seeing guys trying to compensate for no NHL in public.
You can't learn to skate and stick-handle with natural ice anymore, around here.
So if you can't afford to join a team and rent an arena, no more ice hockey for you.
That means it's really become a drinking, and betting game.

I really lost interest in professional hockey when it became a fatal sport, after slapshots hit.
I even cried when Wayne Gretzky cried on TV, being sold to an American team,
not the Maple Leafs, who he grew up dreaming of playing for.

Playing ball hockey with a tennis ball is where it's at for me.

An older Guinness Book of Records says the longest handshake was accomplished by two New Zealanders.
JHC! Here's one from me!

Thanks.... The Maori rub noses not good if you have a head cold or bad breath.
Professionalism ruined a lot of sports IMO look at the Irish guy 'Rory McIlroy' just signed a 10 year deal with Nike for 250,000,000 not sure if that is dollars? but who would care .....

Pleased to report that the wind turbines off the bay where I live are stationery. Nice to know that in these freezing conditions they are turning out zero electricity, but still costing us a fortune in subsidies. I trust the shareholders are Wintering somewhere nice and warm, like Barbados. Wish they were in Afghanistan along with all the stupid politicians who backed this useless scheme..

England has announced that it may let France build nuclear power stations over here. We are already being riped off for the electricity we buy from them. Why not give the jobs to English people, and thye profits too.
