They should use the ocean and channel currents to generate electricity.
When the English and French get together, they know how to make the rest of us suffer.
I don't apologize for my Scottish understandings.

This is the third weekend of January, here in the Niagara Peninsula, Canada.
It's warm and sunny out, some residual ice and snow.
The lakes and canals aren't frozen, no ice fishing when people used to drive their cars out there.

David Bellamy, a well known and respected botanist and enviromentalist. This is an extract from an interview he gave. Frequently seen on television untill.....

"
Until, that is, we touch on climate change and the vicious backlash he suffered when, in 2004, and in the face of scientific convention and public opinion, he dismissed man-made global warming as ‘poppycock!’

‘From that moment, I really wasn’t welcome at the BBC. They froze me out, because I don’t believe in global warming. My career dried up. I was thrown out of my own conservation groups and I got spat at in London.

‘And the worst thing that ever happened — I got a letter that said, “David Bellamy is the worst . . .”

Oh, what was it? Damn, I’m always forgetting things. Rosemary?!’

‘Are you on about the paedophile thing?’ she says, emerging with tea. ‘Yes! It said: “David Bellamy is a paedophile because he doesn’t believe in global warming and is killing our children.”

‘And it’s just nonsense. For the last 16 years, temperatures have been going down and the carbon dioxide has been going up and the crops have got greener and grow quicker. We’ve done plenty to smash up the planet, but there’s been no global warming caused by man.’

This the BBC, state owned and "unbiased". In truth very left wing and very very PC. So there it is folks. If you don't believe in global warming, you must be a paedophile. My comments are unprintable.

Teddy, I fully agree with you that branding someone a "child molester" simply because he doesn't believe in global warming is slanderous and outrageous. Doesn't the UK have strict--as compared to American-- slander/libel laws wherein an individual such as Mr. Bellamy {or any of us} might seek some kind of legal/economic relief from this sort of written "tar and feathering"? This kind of ad hominem politics should be completely outside the bounds of civilized political discourse, and I am very disappointed indeed in the BBC kowtowing to it.
With that being said, I would add that I am against similar mud-slinging from our American right against people who oppose them on such issues as abortion, gun control, immigration reform and gay rights. People have even gone so far as to murder doctors who perform abortions. In this country, anyway, with its relatively easy access for any nut job to get his/her hands on a weapon {Second Amendment, you know}, it is a very short leap from verbal to actual physical assault.

I am reminded by Steve's post of the possibly apocryphal "Address to the People of the United States" attributed (falsely) to John Cleese, written after the election of GWB. Very tongue in cheek and if taken in the sense it was written as humour, not offensive satire it can be hilarious, we Brits are quite able to laugh at jokes against us and can't always see why some others can't. Don't read it if you can't take digs against American spelling, football and gun laws etc.

(Snopes gives the history after the main piece, which is interesting as it shows how the internet can blow things way over the top)

Fortunately for the other planets in our solar system,
only the earth is involved.
This "third stone from the sun", as Jimi Hendrix sang,
is getting more stoned all the time.

No, I didn't get a job as an advertising rep,
I just bought a used issue at Goodwill, a winter celebration.
This Canadian art magazine has some beautiful artwork,
and please, give the photos a chance, as they change paintings.

I'm glad you got into it teddy.
That's the only place I'm seeing a traditional Canadian winter.
Just when it got cold, snowy and icey,
it got sunny today and it's all melting away.

No cross country skiing again, this winter.
I know, I know, I can go to the sandhills and slide down them,
and not worry because if I break my leg I can get it fixed for free,
a new Canadian conversation for kids.

My grandparents talked about the north shore,
a nice beach with palm trees that never freezes,
warm from the ocean currents.
Go south to England and it could be a winter's gale,
for those northern Gaels.

One of our £250,000 wind turbines fell down the other day because.........the wind was blowing!!!!!!!!!!!
Only 50 MPH but apparently that was enough. Shame about the rest of them.

250,000 quid??? That money should be deducted from the salaries of the politicos that voted for the wind turbine projects...

Hey! What's with this global warming relapse, here in the Niagara Peninsula, Canada,
this first week of Februar.
It's been overcast and snowy for two days, and it's not melting today.
I was picking carrots and radishes out of my garden just last week.
Maybe I'll fall down this winter.

We have just had the first rain for about 6 weeks it has been so hot and humid all the papers are tying it to climate change but in actual fact it is just the same as the weather that was common when I came to NZ in 1964.

Maybe I'll fall down this winter.

And what is that supposed to mean???

The "mainstream media" aka KOMSOMOLSKAYA PRAVDA are churning out the agitprop at the behest of the envirotalibananas/econazis and govts worldwide in order to fleece the taxpayers even more. I said to my wife that had I graduated from Law School I would have begun to pursue legal action against the outlets of agitprop. :scold::scold::scold:

"I might fall down this year", means being the first to walk on a light snowfall over icey sidewalks, unseen slippery.

And that's because for the first time this year, in this Canadian winter,
it snowed one day, and then the next, and then today it hasn't melted.
Just like your retro-classical winter heart, Corno Dolce!
I heard you're trying to start a new choir in the Kamchatka Peninsula,
but all you can find for the bass section are, uh, bears.

Yeah, and finding those "bass-bears" is a real bear:grin::lol::nut:

Oh? I have a wintry heart, eh? A wintry heart that has spent hours, dollars, and blood, sweat, and tears in soup kitchens feeding the hungry and homeless...Yep, thats right - only a cold heart can help those who are helpless and homeless...glad that we got that cleared up...:shake::shake::shake:
