Guys/Gals, I just retired about a month ago. :banana: And so far, as the winter is fast approaching here in New York. one of the nicest "perks"for me is not worrying anymore about having to get up at 5 or 6am in order to drive to work on icy, slippery roads and/or with 2 feet of snow on the ground. This--as they say in the commercial--is "priceless"!:up: :clap:As the first big storm of the winter approaches, I am looking forward to turning over and going back to sleep.
The shoveling can wait for later.

Steve do you get a Police pension and a retirement pension? In NZ I get the standard retirement pension eligible from 65years but as I also worked in the UK for a number of years I qualify and get a percentage of the UK pension paid direct by Her Majesties Government, Lucky me?? Nah
the tight buggers over here deduct the English amount from the NZ pension so I end up with the equivalent of sweet Fanny Adams extra in my meager bank account.

Hi Colin. First and most importantly, I hope your wife is better and back home with you. I receive one pension from New York State, where I served for over 30 years as a warrant and then a parole officer. Please let us know how your wife is doing. Peace-- Steve

Right now, my main perk is that I will not have to get up early tomorrow morning and have to worry about digging out my car after the city has plowed it in and then driving in an on-going blizzard to work.:bawl:As of this posting, made at 2227 hrs, we already have more than a foot of snow on the ground, and driving conditions are horrific. As the commercial says, being able to sleep in thru conditions such as these is "priceless".

New perk for diabetics
I have just been informed that unless you are insulin dependent you will no longer be supplied with blood testing strips. As my blood sugar ranges from 3.4 to 18 they are an important part of my life. 3.4 at night could lead to a hypo, which can literally be lethal. Good game.

I got a load you can have Teddy, I stopped using them after 6 months of daily negative results followed by a further 6 months of random negative results.
Plus now with prostate it could take ages to wet the strip!

Mike, very kind of you but its blood tests not urine tests I do. I guess you were testing for Ketosis. The new machines take a drum containing 17 strips which is much easier than trying to shove a test strip into the old machines. I guess I shall just have to claim I don't speak English..................

NHS seem to be cutting back on quite a few things, the chiropodist at my local medical centre has had to stop using his electric burr tool except for really difficult toe nails as he is no longer allowed to sterilise them between use, but must discard them after each patient instead of using them several days until worn (similar kit to a dentists drill or hobby/craft tool) .
He now has to use emery boards.
I think the same or similar ruling applies to barbers, they can only use disposable razors or if they want to use the "cut throat" type then they must use disposable blades, sterilisation not allowed. Are they going to apply the same rules to hairdressers scissors, clippers and combs?
