Sell/use by dates

Yes, I agree. When there was a caravan site up the road, before they built houses on it, the occasional pint did go astray, but it was never a serious problem.

I remember having milk delivered when I was a child, the only problem we had was birds pecking the tops off.

I tends to be the tits that peck the tops off bottles. We don,t get many round here and anyway is an easy problem to deal with. I am now awaiting Mikes comment.

This must be the ultimate. I have seen a use by date on bottled water. No I know the world is going mad.

Did anyone say "Wicks"??? And trouble with them??? Maybe the organbuilder with that name will have something to say about the 'unsavory' associations that now florate in this thread :smirk::smirk::smirk:

CD. Round here Wicks are a famous building supplies company.
If upset, they might came round and brick up your windows. (no computer jokes please)

*&%%$*& oven has just blown up. Only 18 months old and not cheap either. Should have had a sell/use by date on it. Now for a drag out fight with the manufacturers over whether 18 months is a reasonable time for an oven to last, and whether it was of mechanisable quality. Probably have to get an engineers report before I get satisfaction. Might have to cook the Christmas turkey over the coal fire.
Baa, humbug.

For things like that I think some relevant authority (like trading standards in UK) should define minimum periods for which equipment should operate correctly. Some allowances obviously for how much the item cost and the use an item gets within that period.

So a more expensive item should last longer than a cheap one, running/operating time should be considered, not length of time since new, except in cases where deterioration over time is a factor ( like metal rusting or corroding when exposed to atmosphere)

Oh no Teddy, that is dreadful. Surely an oven should last a lot longer than that, the guarantee should be at least two years.. I hope you get satisfaction from the company.

What is there to wear out on an oven perhaps the door hinges or the switches (if manual) was it made in China?

Its an AEG so should be of reasonable quality. I am in the progress of obtaining an engineers report and then I will contact Which (I am a member) who are usually very good at sorting this sort of thing. Have switched to b&%*%*d mode which I find gives me the energy to tackle this sort of problem

Now if it had been a gas cooker blow up you would only have to worry about learning to use your wings, playing the harp and keeping your halo straight.
