I was just being stupid, so somebody took advantage of me. Tried to apply for a job, hoping someone would help me with the work permit. Found one, but turned out to be a scam. I paid for the processing of the work permit, but then he asked for some more... then I searched about this person, found forums about scams and stuff... so there. I should have searched before I paid... Like I said, I wasn't using my coconut shell. :( sigh, you live, you learn.

I am just looking for a job... :(

Thanks anyway guys and gal(s)

Sorry to hear of your experience, Do make sure you report it to the police. You may not get your money back, but it may save some other poor soul from the same fate. The people who do this sort of thing are scum.

He may be in Nigeria but something may be done, even if it is only warning people, which is what you are doing right now. Don't forget we have members all over the world. Someone may know someone............

I think you should just chalk it up as experience, be more careful and it could have been worse

I am sorry to hear you have been scammed, not a nice thing. I hope it was not too much you paid, at least you found out before you went any further. I am afraid I don't have any children that need looking after.

Yeah.. to experience. It shall be tacked in my brain. I wrote in my blog, though I am a little new to blogging.. still, I hope when some people search about these kinds of things, they will be directed to my blog. I shall post links to other forums as well. That I did. I even wrote an e-mail to our national tv station back home. They target "my" people!! I just hope they pay attention to it and make it part of one of their news reports or something.

Oh, thank you for the response btw, Margaret :) I appreciate it.

I probably receive 2 phone calls a day on my home answering machine that are telling me to "call this number regarding your account # xyz123456789 right away." Those are all scams, too ... and unfortunately, some people are gullible and will call, and are later sorry. I would chuck the land line at home if the wife didn't insist upon keeping it .. I, personally, use my mobile phone for all my incoming and outgoing calls anyway.

Kh

Sad to say mobile phone scams are all the rage over here, particularly as many of them are owned by young people who are inexperienced and dare I say often gullible. The favorite is where someone asks to borrow your phone because they have had "had an accident, broken down" etc. They then make a quick call and give the phone back.. later you find they have dialed a premium rate number, which they have set up. and you are billed for £15.00 Imagine how many times you could do that in a day.

That's a terrible scam, teddy ... I never loan my mobile to anyone (except my wife) ... if someone needs emergency help, I'll make the "911" call for them.

I noticed that mobiles are very popular in and around Great Britain, particularly in London ... I like the new law there that goes something like this: It is now Illegal to hold a mobile / cell phone or data device while the engine is running in your vehicle.

Wish they would do that in the US, but not holding my breath ... no doubt the ACLU would fight that to the end.

I see quite a few people where I live using their mobile phones while driving. I have even been travelling on the bus with the driver using his mobile phone. I would never lend my phone to someone I didn't know, like you Krummhorn if an emergency call was needed I would make it.
