That's really impressive -- earsplitting, I dare say. And in a cathedral with good reverberation, it must sound awesome. Had to turn the volume 'way down on the later part!!

Whoever has to go up and tune those pipes must wear good ear protection. Even one pipe would let its presence be known.

Beautiful reeds for sure ... no doubt voiced by Eric Johnson of Quimby Pipe Organs if this recording was made in the last couple years.

Shame about the dreadful distortion. Have to use a reasonable amount of imagination to wonder what it would all sound like in a clean recording. The Trumpet is certainly distinctive and the reverb very tasty!

I really do wonder if Eric Quimby did any work on the State Trumpet. The original voicing is so unique that any other "tampering" would probably cause that rank to lose its "signature". However, he did alot of work to the main organ and it definitely is vastly improved.

Eric Johnson (he's not a Quimby family member :rolleyes:) is Quimby's lead reed voicer. He was the organ tech for the pipe organ at my church (as well as 6 others in Tucson) for several years. He still maintains the Quimby instrument at Northminster Pres here in Tucson, though.
