To test the health of this sub-forum, I'd like to ask you to name your Win/Place/Show choices for favorite opera recording. For the sake of this thread- please limit it to one opera per placing (so, for instance, if you have a boxed set of multiple operas that contains one or more that you like, make a separate listing for each opera, and don't simply list the set as one entry).

My choices are going to make me seem like a Georg Solti fan-boy (which I kind-of am)- but I can't help myself here...

1. Wagner- Götterdämmerung, Solti/Vienna/Nilsson/Windgassen/Frick
2. Wagner-Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Solti/Chicago/Heppner/Mattila/Van Dam
3. Verdi- La Traviata, Solti/Covent Garden/Gheorghiu/Lopardo/Nucci

Damn this is a tough one... To place the opera recordings in the same aspect of dog shows is interesting....there are so many really good performances over time/eras/periods of great opera singers.. I prefer DVD performance as to CD as I prefer to watch and listen then just listen.. so will take some thinking for sure on my part.

The whole win/place/or show thing put me off.

Operas ain't dogs. Well, some of them are, be fair, but not the favorites.

And even three favorites is difficult. (Even three from Prokofiev would be difficult.)

Thirty, may be! :D
