Yeah, let me dig into this K'naan thing. For what, months before the Olympics,
I kept reading about and hearing commentators going on about this big hit song,
something coming out of British Columbia, where the next winter Olympics were going to be held.
But I never heard the song.

And then I kept reading different articles about how the song was remastered,
how K'naan changed words for this commercial application or that sports venue,
getting all these different remixes and lyric changes all around the world,
but I never ever even came close to hearing any of that.

And then the Olympics came and went and his song was supposed to be being played all over, but I never heard it.
I saw his face and the C.D. being advertised all over the place, I heard little bits of flag waving here and there,
almost every time I saw a flag waving, towards the end, not that it will ever end,
Canadian hockey winning the gold medal and the whole "Own the Podium" thing.
That's why my earlier shot at K'naan having the connections.
That whole Olympics seemed to be about just pulling your own friends along.
Too bad the luge competitor who got killed because of wrongful track construction and operation wasn't connected.
He just got some visitors at his funeral back home, an Olympic competitor hotbead.

I heard "Waving Flag" on the radio, played as a song for the first time just last week.
I thought it sounded weak. Nothing strident or manly like Bob Marley and his family.
It's not native, musically, to British Columbia or Canada.
I'm sure, if the government wasn't in contention with native groups about reservations, salmon, etc, etc,
you would have heard maybe Susan Aglukark, someone who enables more symbolic content.

Besides, Drake was starting to come out and would have hit it harder.
But he's from Toronto with prior American status. Even I'm doing one of his songs.
Doubly besides, Canada is simply not a flag-waving country.

yeah... okay... who cares what I'm typing, and I'm still reading about K'naan.
A chick singer from St. Catharines, twenty miles away, who sang at the Vancouver Olympics,
got a vocal slot with K'naan for a Honduras mix of "Wavin' Flag".
That was the cover story for the entertainment section of the Welland paper.
I'll probably never hear that unless it's used in a movie.
