    The mind boggles

    Local news headline

    clicky

Do you get the feeling that some people have more money than sense? Who in their right mind on a night out would buy a 6 litre bottle of vodka for £1,200, ($1,931) or 1.5Litres of champagne for £900 ($1,448) or a cocktail for up to £750($1,207).

Do you also think there is something wrong with the law that allows this sort of thing to continue so that the legal fraternity can get rich arguing over appeals.

[thinks] presumably the legal eagles appealing will adjust their billing to cover the cost of booze at the club![/thinks]
    Cheers MIKE.

6 litres of vodka? Had I drunk it, I would have died 8 times!

Just think how many hungry children one could feed for these £1,200...

Absolutely Mat! Another example of unfettered consumerism/capitalism and greed at its very worst.

I read recently of champagne selling for £5,000 a bottle (Crystal I think) at a London nightclub. Apparently the very rich don't drink it, they pour it over each other?????????????

I saw a suggestion that many of the customers/clients were overpaid sports/media performers. Sounds probable.
    Cheers MIKE.

Interesting that the "elite" will pay that much for something that is readily available for much less. I mean, one can get just as blotto'd on the cheap stuff.

To make matters worse, the expensive stuff is probably the same rot gut that is sold for cheaper, just packaged differently to make people think it's special booze.

Lars, you are so right! Except that if the snobs were to use the "cheaper stuff" they couldn't "Cadillac" as much, since it is the very dearness of what they use from which they derive their "status" and image. Most of all, it is so they might feel superior to all the rest of us paisans who support their careers and thus make possible their various vices and indulgences.

And, bear in mind, that when the customers are consuming this "elite" brand, they are sipping from a clean glass that the bartender served it to them in ... not from the bottle that the overpriced booze came in. How does the "elite" customer actually know they are getting the overpriced stuff and not getting rot gut. It really can't taste that different, can it?

When I was young and worked on the cross channel ferries we used to buy a crew issue only sparkling white wine for 25p a lite. It was known as Calais Plonk. Some of the waiters would swop the labels on a better quality wine and give the plonk to unsuspecting diners keeping the better wine for themselves. Not me of course.

Its sad when there are quite a few people with oodles of cash that have so little brains.......
*If a man wants God to hear his prayer quickly, then before he prays for anything else, even his own soul, when he stands and stretches out his hands towards God, he must pray with all his heart for his enemies. Through this action God will hear everything that he asks* -Abba Zeno-
