• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Berceuse No.1 - My First to publish

Ghekorg7 (Ret)

Hi to all.

I rarely compose for the organ, but in one of these days I came up with a piece. Mainly I do Jazz/ethnic , Orchestral, piano ect, but I felt like go dreaming in Organ Land.....

Called "Berceuse No.1".

This is the first time ever I publish one of my organ compositions, and as such I wanted to upload it here in our beloved forum.

I played live (no playback) one of my custom made VPOs, SIR2 impulse responce convolver added (4channel Cathedral, streched to 6.52 secs).

Normaly this would have been posted in electonic/digital organs sub-forum, but my aim is to concentrate in Pipe Organ composition than in VPO technology in this case:).
Besides, if I was able to get to a real pipe organ I would certenly do it on the spot !!

Please enjoy !

Hi Panos ...

My first thought after hearing the opening of your piece? Vangelis. Why? I'm not sure.

Anyway -- Good job, even though it's not quite my cup of tea. And if you thought you could get away with parallel fifths you were wrong
Joking. I am joking, of course  Thanks for sharing with us.

You've mentioned several times already that you also compose (ethnic?) jazz. Is there any chance you could post some of it? I don't think I've ever heard Greek jazz.

Take care,
Mat

Thank you my friends.

Mat you're right about the fifths. No offence. This piece came flawlessly not much thought or edit. I hear now it can be reworked. But then again I'm not composing for the organ often, after so much excellent pieces from masters I'm not able to add something equal good.

But on Ethnic/jazz.... he he. I'm workin' on this from 1979 onwards and as such I got some small recognition as an avant guard composer in Greece and for this reason the National Hellenic Radio ordered (and payed....he he) the recordings of many works of mine from 1983 to 1994. Equivalent of 9 LPs, I would say...

I'm building a site for three months now... I uploaded Karpathos parts I & II in mp3 format
You can download it in the Index.
The adress is : www.panosvirtual.org
There might be a problem, so another way is to type in Google search panosvirtual.org and you'll get 3 options. One is the index. Clickin' Karpathos will download (good link and fast)

Mat, about Vangelis, I 'm not hearing any similarity, but then again, it may be so, after all He was one of my inspirations and he gave me his Synths and pianos to play with them in Albert hall UK when I had two concerts in 1986 with one of the top selling Greek singer at the time. Also in my visit at his London house, he showed me the great at the time 12 channel recording home studio using video tapes and his tecnique on CP80 electic Grand
Mmmm good times then....

Thank you all again, I'm thinking uploading the Impro-Ciacona in Em I did last summer...

Have fun

Wow, this sounds impressive! Must've been a dream come true for you to meet him. I can only imagine what equipment he had back then. All those keyboards and stuff.

Yeap ! It was.

He gave me (for the gig) his (then) midied CP80 el.Gr., his special DX7 (on which I inserted my special cartdrige) and his MiniMoog, along with a cosole amp and two speakers. Just that.
At his house he had just three stuff : another midi CP80, a Juno 60 and the newest (then) Akai 12 ch multitrack with onboard mixing console and video cassette tape recorder !

Two things amazed me there : one : at his house there where no chairs or anything to sit !! just big cushions !
Two and amazing : his finger tips are bigger than the rest of his fingers and it's hard to imagine that he can play the keys !!! And indeed he can, you must see his tecnique to believe.....
At Nemo studios were the rest of the expencive equipment.
He is a great guy and friendly and gentle person.

Have fun
