Internet Explorer v6

Microsoft has given up on IE 6 ... 10 years ago IE6 came to life, now, according to this article it's time to say goodbye to IE6.

Any of you who are still using IE6 should upgrade pretty soon ... personally, I stay completely away from any version of IE and use Firefox exclusively.

I use IE8 and yes it is a pain at times, I also use Firefox intermittently, but IE9 could be released soon it will be as fast as Chrome so I will give it a try.

I did try complete removal of IE, it's almost inpossible! Odd bits get left which you can't erase or uninstall. What is even worse is that IE is used by all sorts of other applications etc. Parts of of control panel refuse to open without the presence of a version of IE later than 4.

So you say, OK I'll download and install IE for those bits that need it, now the bits you could not erase or uninstall prevent downloading of a later version. A similar state of affairs occurs if you try and uninstall Acrobat reader so you can use one of the other PDF applications, if you tryt and access PDFs from Google the other PDF readers are ignored and you get a blank screen.

You just can't win!!!!!! (Unless you format your drive and do a reinstall of Windows)

Over the years I've tried Internet Explorer (6 through 8), Google Chrome and Opera; none of them came even close to being as good as Firefox.

No real problems with IE8. Good thing as I have to us it because of its association with other programmes I use for my work. Looking forward to 9. Surely it must be an improvement

I dont know why Microsoft messes around so much with key applications.
I find that each change to Windows Media Player makes things more difficult.
Can anyone tell me why, in Win7, iTunes is synching all music to WMP?.
Cheers John

I'm afraid I can't help you with this one, John. I'm not a fan of WMP either. I prefer Winamp.

If I decide to use FireFox...is it possible to import all the favourites I had on IE8? How? Please step by step...

Yes, it is ... once you install Firefox (or whatever browser you opt for) and designate it as your "default" browser, it will have screen prompts guiding you through importing all your favorites.

My main issue with versions of IE after v6, were their inane security issues ... Firefox has three times the security features, yet it doesn't bog down on them like IE does .. at least for me anyway.

It is.

Google is a powerful thing, you know?

EDIT:

Colin, how dare you push in front of me?

I just wasn't thinking, perhaps we should have a computer help thread:rolleyes:

I have forgotten to mention that I have about 60 favourites! My wife says (and I think she's right) that they're not favourite anymore...LOL
