A mean hand gun can be made from a shot gun, I saw a great one made from a .410.

This was a feature of the Mad Max films. A sawn off 12 bore side by side. Unfortunately the penalties over here for such modifications are extreme. (unless you are a criminal)

My X Layout

London, Midland and Scottish Railway was the British railway company that existed before the creation of British Railways in 1948, the layout was based on the final years of the LMS and was in N gauge 148:1

Pics were taken when layout was unfinished just prior to sale.

Recognise quite a few things there Colin, most of the locos and stock are still available although Bachman bought out Graham Farish and moved manufacturing to China, Peco engine sheds and turntables also continue, I found some "Townscene" backdrops in a local shop last year.

The LMS did get down to this area via the Somerset and Dorset line so I have a couple of LMS locos; at least you didn't model the Greasy Wet and Rusty (also known as the great way round and to some poor demented souls as God's Wonderful Railway, but officially the Great Western Railway)

Lovely layout Colin. Wish I had the room for that sort of setup. Maybe one day.......... Meanwhile I will have to be satisfied with a ride on the Talyllyn Railway at Christmas.

Mike, how is your layout coming on?

It’s good that Peco and Farish are still available I suppose it is all computerised to day but my modelling days are past “Der Puff und puffer room” is now my computer room.

one of my retirement plans is to ride every narrow gauge railway in the UK. I am not so worried about the minatures although some of them do have appeal, for instance the Romney Hythe which has a lot of history.

Do you want to know something? I used to live right next door to the real
thing CSX Rail! I love toy trains! I just can't find any here that isn't plastic
junk anymore. My husband found a box full of Transformer toys that were
dated back when the toys first came out and they had medal in them.
I bought us two new ones at Walmart yesterday and they were just plastic.
Eighteen dollars for two pieces of plastic that worked like a hard puzzle.

Yes they are lovely Mike, and I have looked at the site before. However it is the true narrow gauge trains that I relly love, rather than the scaled down models.

David there is always room somewhere somehow, my current one is in the bay window of my bedroom, with cupboard space and drawers under it see link to progress pics below, depth of the bay is about 3', minimum length in the bay 4', maximum width just under 10' (encroaches into the rest of the room by a few inches at one end)

Other alternatives include one which is hinged to the wall, folds away when not in use, need only take about 8 to 12 inches when folded. I had layouts in the loft at 2 houses. Another I had was on a folding wallpaper pasting table. Saw one which folded up against the wall at the head of a bed which supported it when in use folded down.

Another favourite space saver is a long narrow layout either on a shelf or along the top of a bookcase or 3.

Beware though it can be addictive, frustrating but also very enjoyable.

A friend of mine built a shelf all around his room with a removable section where the door was. That gave approximately 40 foot of double track. Quite enough even before he added a fold down board for the goods yard.
