• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

amusing preludes / postludes

Hi there,

Just wondering what you have all done in the past for amusing preludes / postludes?.

I don't suppose anyone has done anything on the theme to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang have they? - it's a bit of an in joke with our Curate and it would be great to disguise this piece of music in a postlude.

Childish, maybe - but then that's me

The last time April 1st (April Fools Day) fell on a Sunday, I did a couple spoofs on music during the service. Actually played a very reverent version of I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandee during communion. Only one parishioner, besides the pastor, caught on to what I was doing.

For that same Sunday, I played the theme song from Leave It To Beaver, a popular TV family show in the US in the early 60's.

At some Christmas Eve services for part of the prelude music, I have employed such ditties as Frosty the Snowman, I'm Dreaming of a White Xmas, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

I've yet to be ex-communicated from the church ... being the long term organist at my present church (29 years and counting) I can virtually get away with most anything. They (the congregation) actually expects is from me, knowing that I will deliberately push the envelope as far a possible.

I'd love to hear a couple of John Lewis's compositions and/or arrangements for the Modern Jazz Quartet arranged for organ, maybe tone down some of the more swinging and syncopated passages. Tunes like Django, or Bag's Groove spring to mind.

If I could get a score or a MIDI file I might run it through Finalé and feed it to GrandOrgue.

Hi Jean-Paul,
I have found the music as a digital download, but how do I then get it to you?
When I buy it, can I then send it onto you for you to then compose from?
