• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Jorgan on Touch screen with Linux

Dear all,
as I wrote recently, I am setting up my third gen VPO with GO and jOrgan under Ubuntu Linux. In addition the hardware is three midi-keyboards and a midi pedalboard. Also I have two 19" flatscreens, one being a touchscreen.
A similar setup, except for the touchscreen, worked fine under Win but I am now aiming for better performance and hence has gone to Linux.

I have installed everything and it kinda works, except for the jOrgan that is not properly working when I go into full screen mode.

The aim is to keep one screen as system console with the Ubuntu desktop and dedicate the touchscreen for jOrgan.

The screens are set up with the touchscreen as a separate X-screen.
GO and jOrgan is set up to start on the ordinary screen, and works fine. When jOrgan goes into full screen mode, it opens on the separate X-screen as intended BUT, the screen goes into a blueish colour with nothin else visible. But, if I hover the cursor on the bluish background it turns into a fingerpointer when it passes the stops and other things that is there, however, being invisible... I can also poke my finger there and sure enough, the GO stops on the other screen will change in sync. If I again press F11 jOrgan reverts back from full screen mode again as expected.
So, most of it works, except for the blueish screen that is not so exciting...

If I configure the touchscreen as an ordinary screen and set it up as a wide desktop, it all works fine except for the touchfeature calibration that is spread out also on the non-touch screen... So at least the touch screen is not broken, it just doesn't work with jOrgan in full screen mode on the X-screen.

Is there anybody out there that has a similar setup or otherwise have some ideas? I am running low on ideas now...

Regards
Christer

Hi Christer and welcome !

Better place for your post would be our electonic/digital/virtual organs/synths sub forum :)
I believe Krummhorn will redirect your post. the reason is that you'll get more help there, as all great people who love digital organs are there too !!

But, the best place for your problem, as it is much technical for here, is jOrgan users mail list !!! There we can answer something on your problem.
I'm developing dispositions for jOrgan but for windows OS, but they work on Linux too. There are members who use Linux OS only so...

Here the links :

If you cannot find the page for register in users list try first our archives here :

On top you'll find the link to users list.

I hope I'll meet you there !

Hallo Panos,
Thanx for your suggestions, I subscribed to the list immediately.

However, I gave it one more shot and finally I managed to find the problem.
So in case anybody is interested in my config, i.e two screens, of which one is a touchscreen, and Grandorgue with jOrgan under Ubuntu 11.04, drop me a mail and I'll be glad to contribute.

Regards

I am setting up a similar environment.
My idea is to have 1 screen (not touch) as console for GrandOrgue and several small 7 inch touch screens with Jorgan.
Main reason is that in GO you can't setup multiple screens...
So GO is the main program and Jorgan will be just a disposition console.

Do you have any tips for doing this?
Any problems with this setup?

Regards,
Edward
