i love jack teagardens trombone and vocals. he recorded st. james infirmary many times, but i dont think he ever did a version better than this.gord http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyH2ez3io7Y
Thanks Mike,
I'm not a lot wiser but the guy's technique sounds even more difficult than normal guitar playing.
Hi Gord, Great Big T trombone.
Hi teddy, you're gonna love this from Cannonball's Bossa Nova http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8czmcphuGnQ&feature=player_detailpage
Teddy, I had a listen to the two JM&HH tracks you posted. Quite honestly, I thought Joni's singing in both cases was laid-back, waaay too laid-back, IMO. Fortunately, there were Herbie and Wayne (and this other guy on soprano in the first track) to save the day.
I will have to look for MINGUS with Shorter on soprano.
Actually, on this ^^ recording Jean is not playing oboe but cor anglais (also referred to as English horn, which paradoxically is neither English nor a horn). Still, he's great with both instruments. I've recently posted a track of his on rate the jazz piece thread.
About clarinet - well, maybe it's because it's often used in dixieland context, which I'm not too fond of.
For Mat.
I bow to your superior knowledge. I guess I'm not familiar enough with Classical
instruments to know the difference between a n oboe and a cor anglais.
Anyway I hope you enjoy this superb alto player http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iJU8ec0DWk&feature=player_detailpage
