Hello,
I came late to classical music, but now it is one of my true loves. I have been listening seriously for perhaps 5 years. Until recently I listened to relatively little modern music, and my experiences were fairly negative - I did not enjoy it. Since there is so much modern music (roughly 100 years or so) and all new works will, of course, be modern, I am determined to "learn" to appreciate it. One reason for joining this forum is to discuss modern music - What do others like?, How best to "learn" to appreciate it?, What works may be "stepping stones"?, etc.

I would also love to generally participate with others who love classical music and discuss aspects of what has brought all of us so much joy. For the record, Mozart is my great love although my tastes are probably very similar to the average CM lover (at least as far as the polls I've seen).

Welcome to the Forum. I am sure you will enjoy your stay. To get you started here is a little teaser: The first part of Cantus Arcticus; Concerto for Orchestra and Birds by the Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara
I have this particular recording and it is a contemporary piece I am quite fond of. The second part does not seem to have been posted, which is a pity. there are however, other versions on YouTube, but I do not think they are as well done. But, this will give you the idea.
