there was never a better dixieland rhythm section than,eddie condon,gene schroeder,len gaskin and george wettling. apart from maybe louis and his,earl hines,arvell shaw and cozy cole.

Stu, Gerry Mulligan is a great musician as well; nice find! That is a great unit on that you tube clip and that piece really swung. I haven't heard that much Mulligan, but whatever I've heard--including this piece you posted--convinces me that I shall have to explore more of his work. That quartet he was with at Newport, is that the usual line-up, or did it vary?

Steve, Chet Baker was the original trumpet man with Mulligan, then if my memory serves me right, Art Farmer took over and then valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer , (this was the only time I caught the Mulligan Quartet live) , then it was trumpet man John Eardley. Mulligan then of course formed his Jazz Orchestra which was also excellent, and also Mulligan later joined forces with the Dave Brubeck Quartet (Live At The Berlin Philharmonic is a cracker) .
