Hi Oldude,

When you mention the "latest jazz", is it your wish to explore the boundaries of Jazz e.g. Leucocyte by EST and beyond? Or maybe Jazz that employs Quartal Harmonies or compositions that employ 9th, 11th, 13th, and augmented 15th chords? I am thoroughly aroused by your thread.............

Hi CD,
I honestly dont know what is happening in the current jazz world. My main interests lay in pre-1970 jazz, and I am trying to look at later jazz
so that I have found players like the Vache bros. Johnny Varro , Randy Sandke, Jon-Erik Kellso and so-on.
By introducing this thread I was hoping to draw in posts from people like yourself, (who very obviously has an interest),
to suggest new artists and perhaps new jazz modes that myself and others with the same level of ignorance of truly modern jazz
can sample and evaluate in our own old fashioned terms.
Just today from Forum posts I have found 2 musicians totally new to me (both from Mat).
So please, go ahead and post some of the music that "arouses" you (but without too much sophisticated musical terminology,
which quite frankly is way above my head). Start it coming and we can then evaluate the general Forum interest.

Cheers John

Hi John,

My Jazz brethren here are quite the more professional YouTube sleuths than I am. Of course, I can dispense with terminology. EST is as far as I have gone in current Jazz. However, McCoy Tyner is by far the best when it comes to using advanced harmonies - He leaves everyone else in the dust.............

Maybe you are tongue in cheek with your latest from YouTube - I dunno........Maybe many are now trying to launch into a similar vein as EST but, its not happening for them - However, I felt that the two groups that you've shared are not too "shabby"........

Hi CD,
I launched this thread out of a position of total ignorance as to what is the latest Jazz music that we
should be prepared to be hearing at this time in Jazz History.
Basically what I was hoping to hear, from people aware of such music, was specimen tracks which
can educate me and other old jazz fans, (whose ideas of modern jazz go back to Charlie Parker), should expect
to be hearing as examples of the most recent "Real " world of jazz.

Please can you give me a sample of the music that you consider fits the category of
modern jazz of the 21st Century?

OK CD,
I know about E.S.T. and they were certainly different (But I think no longer with us).
Is there anyone else to replace them,
or to offer 21st Century Jazz?

Our forum brethren Mat and White Knight are better versed in whats happening on the contemporary Jazz scene than I am.

Thanks Mat and stu,
This is music I can certainly listen to and appreciate.
I think I am starting to get an idea of what is developing, though I would like to hear some modern
stuff from the States; (perhaps you can help me here Steve?)

Mat, sounds like he is maybe strumming the keybord strings on the opening minutes of the track?. I think.
