Rumore Alto Sax

Good Afternoon All.

This is my first post.

I am trying to find information on a Saxophone.

I just purchased a Saxophone that has the name on the horn area, "RUMORE". The Sax is a Black Nickel plate.

Has anyone ever heard of the Sax? Does anyone know if it was made in the USA or was it overseas? Any info would be greatly appreciated on the piece. This was a gift and just trying to learn more about it's origin.

I am a novice and trying to learn how to play this piece.

Hi Greg!

I have a Rumore soprano sax and have learned a little about the brand. It was designed by saxophonist Dick Rumore. The guy holds a couple of patents for saxophone design and, imho, he did a very good job with the soprano I have. I don't know how your alto compares, but I haven't come across a soprano I like better and I've had plenty of other musicians fall in love with it. You can find more about Mr. Rumore by searching his name, but he formed Paragon Music in Tampa, FL. That's where I originally saw these sold, though I found the soprano in a pawn shop down the street. I haven't come across anymore in person, so it seems like a small brand and I doubt they make them anymore. At least, I couldn't find any for sale new online.

LOL! Yeah, they are pain. I play tenor, alto, and soprano regularly (and have played baritone as well). The soprano is the finickiest of them all, even on mine. It's just the nature of the beast. It takes a strong, tight, but flexible embouchure, a really good ear for tuning, and a lot of patience. But, it's a real pleasure to carry after lugging a tenor or bari around -- or in my case, both one semester.

saxgirl! While it's interesting to hear about your varied saxes and formal education,
when I think saxgirl I'm reminded of the group "Quarterflash" and their big hit "Harden My Heart",
a song I did when it was on the charts and one that still serves me well.
That band featured a female vocalist who played sax, "New Shoes" being another band like that.
Any influences there for you?
I gave the soprano to a local friend of mine.
His band was signed at the same Buffalo ceremony with "Spyro Gyra", and he was making it big time.
Two weeks later he was struck down by Bell's Palsy, truly sad.
I thought the soprano would help him get back into it. He still uses it.
