Hello,

Greetings from Turkey. Nice to be among music lovers.

I'm a retired engineer having no background in music other than being a listener, mostly of classical music, and then perhaps more of the baroque than other periods.

For nearly a year, I have been reading some music theory and even dared try writing some music myself (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX7sYgslGPA).

Impressed by the expertise and the prevalent courtesy and comradeship in the forum, I look forward to meeting fellow members and meanwhile learning a lot from them. Is this bad?:)

I'm seeing you backing off through some diplomacy here.
What happened, sandal?
Did someone from North American let you in on some "turkey talk",
if I can "gobble-gobble" a little here myself?
However, this is the computer age. Maybe you just want to be a turkey-lurkey.
Jus'typin'.

dear john watt,

being a secret (not anymore:)) admirer of the –sometimes explosive- humor in JHC’s posts, where he often imitates street-speeches, accents thru distorted spelling; i was referring to mat’s sarcastic remark on JHC’s ‘eloquence’, and his cheerful answer (both a few posts above). amused by their exchange of jokes, i was meaning to remark on mat’s jokingly teasing post. that i needed to explain it makes clear how well i could make myself understood:)

to avoid undue crowding of a13ch’s thread, let me reply your questions and remarks here: aleatoric music is, shortly, indeterminate or chance music (dice music), practiced and promoted by some genius! composers of the last hundred years (as i believe you know much better than i do). my joke was that a 'cleg' or a fly walking about on a staff would provide an opportunity for a sight-reading musician to make pure and true aleatoric music (i.e., aleatoric music par excellence). beer would surely help, but something dryer would be highly recommended to ease perpetrating the heresy:)

being aware, from your posts, of your diligence on the proper use of the language, i gather that you are annoyed by my language. having never been to an english speaking country, it is true that i generally feel even less at ease with spoken english, especially as it gets less formal and more colloquial. i know i sometimes sound awkward, anachronistic, even quasi-victorian (and sometimes can’t help mocking it myself), but that’s the best i can do:).

as to the gobbledygook on diplomacy, etc, which as they stand in your post are quite incomprehensible to me: perhaps, in the light of the above, you would like to rephrase them, so that even i can understand.

cordially
