Now I see .. ...

... after yesterday's Cataract op which seems to have gone OK; no pain apart from a dull ache after the local wore off, after about 3 hours, paracetamol (tylenol?) is sorting that. The needles applying the local were a bit disconcerting, but the most aggravating thing was the eye shield and the gauze pad it held in place, as the local wore off every eyelid movement was most irritating; also the shield made wearing specs somewhat difficult; I found a previous pair and bent the arms which worked up to a point.

Not sure if the local would have had any efect on the sinus, but right nostril seemed to be partially blocked for a time but then the nose did try and emulate a tap for a while.

Finally gave up trying to do anythjing about 8 pm, went to bed and listened to Classic FM until I felt dozy (well dozier than usual) and managed to sleep. (Sorry I missed the Skype chat)

Shield is now off, main thing I notice is that things are much brighter/higher contrast, this screen (composing the post) is now almost black on white instead of shades of grey. Prior to the op the white on dark teal was among the more easily viewed screens. Sight is not perfect yet, have to wait a few weeks then have an eye test and new specs.

Great to hear everything went well for this procedure, Mike :)

It's amazing in today's world how these cataract surgeries are done ... When my Mom had it done (in the 70's), she had to lay flat on her back for 3 weeks, and could only get up to eat and ... uhh ... well ... erm ... you know, ... ahh ... perform bodily functions .

Glory to God that the procedure was successful and that you are very soon having full use of your eye(s).

Happy that all when I had my right eye done a few years ago there was a very noticeable improvement in my sight. The left one is going to be done sometime but the Doctor says it is not ready yet. I see him next month for my yearly exam, so we will see what he says then.

Did the specialist guesstimate that you will eventually receive 20/20 vision in the near future?

Don't think they can manage that CD, the cataract just blurs the vision, say like looking through a window which gets pregressively dirtier.

20/20 vision would require the restoration of the ability to focus the lens of the eye to cope with different focal lengths, for most people the usual problem is that the eye has difficulty focusing closely as for reading.

I notice now that the eye which has been operated on sees whiter whites, better contrast and brightness, for the other eye things have a sort of yellowish brown cast and less clarity.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for helping me understand better - I find that at times my vision gets a little blurrier. Maybe its time to get some things checked up.

Good for you getting through this, Mike. Not a walk in the park, certainly.

Here's to your full enjoyment of improved vision. :)
