I know of a train that is really nice. If you've seen Norfolk Southern's new
engines come through. I love the picture of the horse on it.

Lappa Valley Steam Railway

Another site with four gaugeas, 15", 101/4" and 71/4" plus a standard guage line. Who could ask for more.

Featured here is Zeberdee an o-6-4 coal fired pannier tank built in 1974 by Severn Lamb of Stratford upon Avon.

There are many attractions aside from the railways such as a boating lake and nature trails.

They seem to run a variety of rolling stock, and there is an air of Fred Karno about the site, but itlooks like a good place for a family day out, or for a steam nut

Old Kiln Light Railway

Gauge 2'

Length of line 3/4 of a mile. Owned and operated by a group of enthusiast who collect steam and diesel locomotives and rolloing stock.
Pamela was built in 1906 by Hunslet for us in the Welsh slate quaries. Slowly being rebuilt. Elouise was built in Germany for the goverment but ended up in Portugal as a tourist attraction, outside a cafe. Now has a new and appreciative home.

Rolling stock is from all over, some military, and some of the coaches have been built from old wagons.

Passenger rides are available, but mainly this is a site for railway nutters, and bless their hearts. The line is currently being extended and more builings added from a variety of sources. A steep climb which at times hits 1- 30.

Nice film Mike. I wondered at first who all those strange men in uniform were, then I remembered. Guards, ticket collectors porters etc. :D

Guards, ticket collectors porters etc.

Yep, a dying breed.

So many things have changed, yet surprisingly some things remain almost the same. Steam has all but gone, just a few special runs, now Waterloo > Bournemouth is electric units, over 100 years ago the best time from W'loo to Bournemouth (108 miles) was scheduled at 2 hours, on occasion this could be done in 1H 50m (like making up for a delayed start) today's best schedule is 1H 40m, Wow progress!! They still run 2 trains an hour over the route, one fast, only stops at Southampton, one "slow", stopping at more stations.

Hope you will enjoy this piece of film of the Tallylyn railway as I knew it in the 1950s. Overgrown and neglected it is hardly recognizable from todays immaculate well run service. But it had its own atmosphere and beauty in those days. Just a few dedicated amateurs who would not let it die. Shame about the narrator. You would think the tosser would learn how to pronounce the name properly.

Lovely pictures Mike, and what a wise choice of name for the loco. I am gusessing it is standard gauge, which is probably why I have not got round to it yet.
