Very interesting Mike. I have a two disc vinyl set of David Munrow demonstrating various Medieval instruments. The set comes with a thick book which is most informative.

I like the early trumpets, much purer, cleaner sound than the modern valved ones, Theorbo is also a favourite, not quite so struck on some of the reeds when used as solo instruments, prefer recorders to reeds, my thread on "Baroque and other early bits" http://www.magle.dk/music-forums/15231-baroque-other-early-bits.html should give an idea of my preferences.

Mike, I agree - And the forerunner to the trombone known as "sackbut" has a sound that is quite pleasing - Yes, I like the Theorbo very much.

Just had a flight of fancy vision, imagine the Organetto

with an additional manual (and pedals?), imagine the fun (not) holding that on your lap and hand pumping it. I could see it as conducive to losing weight especially if the monks habit is also the required attire.

Very interesting Mike. kinda neat sound actually.. I am wondering,, Have alot of bamboo growing near here..might try and see about making one using bamboo pipes. Be neat winter project ...hummm

You should have taken the French version(Cromorne) as your MIMF "handle". More fitting, imho.............
