• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

Testers needed for the Barton 3/7 Theatre Organ for GrandOrgue (Windows and Linux)

Hi,

The opensource world has seen some major pipe organ simulation development in the last 24 months through the GrandOrgue project. The audio and graphics processes have been remade and now support 8-bit/16-bit/24-bit audio in 8-96khz sample rates, multiple attacks, loops, and releases, sample based tremulants, customizable graphics, multiple panel views, system based couplers, generals, divisionals, temperament controls, and the ability to customize the amplitude and tuning of each sample played from within the GrandOrgue settings interface. GrandOrgue can be built for Windows, Linux, and OS-X.

In order to play the Barton 3/7 for GrandOrgue you will need the latest development release of GrandOrgue 0.3.0.5. Please note that this is developmental software and so we need testers to tell us what they like/don't like, what works/doesn't work, etc.

For more details and download links please go to:

Kind regards,

Hi Graham
Indeed the new Go is a super VPO program now. I'm using the 860 devs edition, so far is reacting as I want. Still learning stuff though, as there are a lot gathered together this time.

Multi releases are a charm and opened a new way for me to experiment with different convolution reverbs on dry sets to become super wet ect.
I mean resample with the reverb added and then precisely cut the releases to get them into a second folder and so on....

We already shown what can be done with GUI :)

Very good knowledge of the .organ file creation is needed though, as there are many parameters to set there first.

Goin' now to see what's new :)

Good afternoon,

I saw this post a little while back and I was hoping to be able to use some of the recordings from the Barton organ to add to some of the other organs. I don't have the newest version of GrandOrgue (I had trouble getting it to work on my computer), but I exported the files at a lower sample rate so that the older version could open and play them. I incorporated them into a custom .organ file and they're playing ok, but they don't stop playing when you do. The software plays back the entire length of the sound sample. I'm guessing this has something to do with the set being designed for multiple release samples but perhaps not. I'm new to working with sample sets so I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me some insight into how to get the software to not play the whole audio clip for each note.

Thanks so much in advance,
Matt

EDIT: Upon closer inspection, it looks like it's the audio conversion process that messed things up. Any ideas on how to preserve the release markers and such and still be able to change the sample rate or pitch of a sample? Or is there any way to add these points back in again after the process is done?

Sometimes broken development versions of GO are published. Is the current version still not working? And if yes, what is the problem?

Hi Wehtam721, welcome aboard !

Two questions : Which app did you use to downsample 24/48000 to 16/44100 ? After downsampling are there the cue markers ? (just one for each wav file)

Audacity 2.0 is out and it is very very improved . You can check the loops and create new ones , as well as cue markers with Loop Auditioneer, which is just super for this task. Both are free.

For Pitea set we used Sony Soundforge and ..... LoopAuditioneer (Audacity 2 was not available at the time). Cue Marker is essential so MyOrgan,GO1 & 2 can play right the wav file.

GO v0305. Which version did you try ? What's your OS ? As e9925248 says, what's your issue ? Crash ? No sound ? Continuous cracking sound ?

Her I'm on win7 64bit and the latest commit 966 is working issue free, except the periodically cracks when RearouteAsio and/or Jack 199b are used, as I posted . The sound that I get from 966 is way superior to any previous GO version !
Asio4all at 128 48000Hz.
Its advanced features are a breeze too :)
You should try to stay on v0305 !! Barton set is designed for it !

PS. You can use a 30 days full working Sony Soundforge 10 version for free and the process off downsampling (or up..) with it preserves loop points and all markers. A month is good for the custom set you want ;-)

Current GO trunk also allow to store/override the cue markers in the ODF.

YES. In my 4GB test organ I'm not using any cue markers ! The main (looped) wav file of each pipe has two loops one for sustaining sound and one for release. Then I added 3 wav files with different release times 140ms 380ms and 99999ms. It's working GREAT !

Pano,
Your words could imply that the new Audacity has loop-handling abilities. But you may have been referring simply to Loop Auditioneer.
Could you please clarify, and also tell us just what you find improved in Audacity?

Hi Analogicus, glad to "see" you again :)

Well, thinkin' in Greek and typing English can cause this... :) I did put a period though , no?
YES, I'm referring to Loop Auditioneer for loops and cues.
But, Audacity 2.0 has indeed many improvements , here :

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/features-2.0

Very good noise removal, flac support ect ect, read direct from source are some. Check it out.

Yes you are definitely.... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/features-2.0.....very good noise removal and work good:).
But i have a complain about audacity that its not working quickly as like windows media player and sound is not very high:p,but there is no noise.so audacity should publish another version with high sound capacity and play quickly as it can:).

Thanks:)

Hi Mark, welcome to the forum ! :)

Yep not so quick, but, as I also have Sony soundforge 10, the difference on loading is not so big.
Also cannot export 24/48000 afaik..
Though keep in mind that Audacity can convert a video downloaded from You Tube into a first class mp3..... very easy and accurately (FFMPEG extension).
Also it is the best free audio editor (minus looping) around. Windows madia player is not an editor :) !
So, one can have Audacity and Loop Auditioneer and go on ....

Love the organ, great work. Solo Octave coupler appears to give solo to great octave on GO, hope this helps. Well done

Such things are easy to fix yourself. The help includes a ODF reference.

Search for the coupler section with the corresponding lable "[Coupler999]" and change the DestinationManual setting [other solo to solo couplers show the correct value].

Regarding my earlier post:

Thanks so much for all of the input that I got from you. I used Audacity to shift the pitch of some of the stops (to create flat/sharp celeste ranks) and that was erasing the loop and release markers. I've been working with LoopAuditioneer to put the loops back in by hand. That has worked pretty well, but for some of the samples it is harder than others.

I tried again to get the newest edition of GrandOrgue to install on my computer and it worked just fine this time so I don't know what the issue was the first time, but it's fine now. I'm guessing something on my end just didn't install quite right and an uninstall and reinstall fixed it. I'm using the samples at their original bit rate now.

Thanks again for your help,
Matt

Hey Matt,
Thanks for your work and fixes !
Also thanks for report.

LoopAuditioneer, can give the message "didn't find any loops! sorry", if settings are as on previous session and not set for the new ones.
Yep this need some experience, but try different settings as a trial and error at first, keeping notes on what's going on and the nature of samples in question.
It's a great tool.

I used Audacity to shift the pitch of some of the stops (to create flat/sharp celeste ranks) and that was erasing the loop and release markers.
GO 0.3 allows to change the pitch at runtime (via organ settings) or via ODF.
Via ODF, you can override the release marks - the next GO builds will also allow overriding loops via ODF.

Thanks .
I'll wait :)
In the meantime I get much enjoyment with 0306.
It's a super version, the more I use, the more I'm impressed !

Barton, to return to the thread, becomes the main standard free Theatre Organ set and plays wonderfully (with latest improvements) with 0306.

Keep it up !
