Hi to all,

I'd like to introduce myself, since it's the proper thing to do for my first post here!

In very short I'm a composer and a publisher of contemporary classical music! As the rules state I won't post the name of the publishing company, or links to my works (since they are in youtube and there is a link to buy the score there... I am allowed to do that here?). And either way I hope to be an active member and post in other places as well... So here goes...

The composer

I've always felt a composer. Partly because of my huge boredom trying to study the etudes given to me while in piano lessons. I did finish my studies in piano, but carried on studying a as a composer, to a PhD level in the UK. I'm Greek btw...

My works have been performed in various parts of the world, including the UK, UK, Greece and soon in other places I hope.

It's difficult for me to pin point the aesthetic tendencies of my works, but I seriously doubt they belong in the avant garde scene... They are more timid in a sense, without this meaning they are not musical or passionate.

The publisher

As a composer, I soon realised that there seems to be a negative vibe associated with contemporary classical music, amongst performers mostly. So we formed a team and launched a publishing house (which won't be named to avoid being seen as advertising).

We have 6 composers (amongst them myself) that publish their scores through our publishing house, and we do hope to have 4 more very soon. In a total of 1 month of life we are starting to become more and more active, with the will to share as much as is commercially viable. Complete recordings can be found in youtube, preview of parts of the scores in the webpage and soon we should be able to offer a direct way of contact between the audience/performers/interested parties and the composers. something missing from the world of classical music.

In other words I'd say that I live through music, breath music, study music (despite having left the uni a few years now), teach music, offer music and... (?)am music(?)

Nice to be here! ^_^

Γειά σου Νικόλα !!! :)

One more Greek here, I think we'll have to do a small party he he.
Nice to have you here. This is the best place to be on the web.
Also there's always a way to share your works with us and not being spam.
I mostly upload performances of mine on different topics but also in some cases some of my compositions.
Also links to my virtual pipe organ sets, but all for free with the aim to share them with my friends and all interested.
You-tube links are a very usual behaviour here, linking others or ourselves sometimes. It's fun and revealing hidden or unknown information.

Enjoy your stay on board, we'll talk again soon

Best

nikolas! I'm happy to see other, far more accomplished and gracious members, addressing you first.
That way, diplomatically, I can approach your posting with some stage floor level commentary.
I'm glad you admitted you were timid, because your reluctance to use technology to the fullest is timid.
You can find anything you want online, real or not, even if different online domains have their own protocols.
Look at me, [email protected]. Sites that don't allow links can't say I can't use my internet address,
just because my domain address is in there too, and that is my real name.
How can you promote yourself and get more famous if you're not using your real name?
And don't get hyped up about avant garde or whatever anyone else says about performing new music, classical or others.
Any movement of new music takes a big effort, and here at Magle.dk you'll find everyone, except for maybe me,
is an accomplished player and composer, or a very discerning computer user.
It must be nice to be Greek, having such an intelligent and creative history to draw upon.

Let me pump you up.
I have a love of Greece, not just because they innovated most of what made Rome famous,
but in my Scottish heart, my deeply Highlander, Christian heart.
When the disciples of Jesus of Nazareth first visited their first big Greek city,
they were standing in the agora looking at a display of gods and goddesses,
brought there by all the foreigners who came to trade.
The disciples noticed an empty stand with a sign, the unknown god.
When the disciples asked a Greek person who the unknown god was,
they heard that although all these other civilizations had gods and worshipped them,
none of them ever came alive or claimed to be the creator of life on earth,
and they were waiting. The disciples were welcomed right away.

Here in Canada, I like my Greek restaurant sign customers,
always getting a well-rounded meal that suits my dietary interests.
When I was playing in bands six nights a week on the road,
the saying was half the restaurants north of Toronto were owned by Greeks,
people who bought large tracts of land, building their own home and business domain.
My one friend Chris, owner of The Olympia, uses auctions to buy up lots of stainless steel restaurant equipment,
until he has enough to fill a few shipping containers,
and then he travels across the ocean with them, selling them to pay for his trip.
I'm looking forward to hearing what you've got to play.

Hi Nick, I am not too sure what you want from us but I will pick up on the above part of you post, I think you are correct about neg vibes concerning contemporary classical, I have been going to concerts for more years than I care to remember and the average age of the audience would have to be in the 60+ and they sure do not go for contemporary, for my part I have tried it and found it not to my liking, on this forum and others you will find a soul mate under the name of some guy who does a sterling job trying to make new converts, perhaps you should PM him

Hi nikolas ... and welcome to the forum

You may, after having made at least 10 posts, you may post here in the Contemporary Classical Works forum area. This is a place where composers can showcase and promote their own »classical« works and get constructive criticism (reviews) and comments from other users.

We look forward to listening to your new works.

First of all thanks for the new posts and the welcome(s)...

As I've been an admin in various forums in the past, I know very well how it feels to get new members, post away some links and then disappear. I don't like doing that, nor I like spamming away without being a 'real member'! Simple as that!

Yes, I know the rules of the Internet quite a lot and already my name should provide ample of information... But the point is not that, is it? Nor it is to find a way around the rules. I want to go by the rules and once I find enough interesting things to say (apart from 'LOL' or 'WOW that's great' to fill my post count) I should be posting some of my (and others) things as well.

JHC: Thanks for the info. I'll track down 'some guy' (if this is a member nickname) and see about talking to him.

krummhorn: Thanks for the heads up!

You're looking like an old hand on this forum already, nikolas, typing around me.
Not everyone likes to endure being riffed off by "The Fount of Font & The Earl of Url",
if that provides amples of information.
