The trombone as a jazz instrument over the years.

For me the main instruments which have been utilised from the beginnings of Jazz are:
Trumpet
Trombone
Clarinet
Piano
Bass/tuba
Drums
with various saxes joining the fray along the way.
Subsequently many instruments more recognised for
use in Classical music have joined in
ie;
Horns; flute; bassoon etc.
Following Mike's suggestion I will start a thread to look at
the development of trombone as a jazz instrument.
Obviously I expect numerous posts by other Forum members
to expand on my own contributions.

The more I play the trombone, the more I find it to be as expressive as the human voice - The trombone quartet can chant the brothers in a Monastery or honk, hoot, howl, and growl as if in the cataclysmic gyrations of War or the Roman Orgy. It goes without saying that in Jazz it so colorfully and dynamically expresses that which the player wishes to express.

Hi CD ' how colourful a description you have given.
Would you like to expand on the Roman Orgy aspect?

If I do, I'll probably be made to "walk the plank" whilst the MIMF ship is floating over the Challenger Deep southwest of Guam - At a depth of 10,898 meters it means certain death for yours truly - Crushed beyond oblivion........

You're right teddy,
George Chisholm was a great trombonist who probably never received international acclaim because he was as
British as they come. Can anybody tell me whether they love Jack Teagarden as much as teddy and myself;
if so get playing some of your favourite tracks with J.T. on Forum posts.
