How safe is our food now days?

We get lots of "organic" grown vegetables here which translates to 1) a higher price (because it's "organic"); 2) supposedly none of the herbicides normally used in crop growing are used.

Most of our produce in Arizona comes from Mexico - the tomatoes I buy certainly do as I only get 'hydroponic grown' tomatoes which to me taste better and don't have that thick skin to deal with.

One thing that we do watch for processed foods is the ingredients ... especially for "diet" foods ... seems there are more harmful things added to make it "diet" that are worse for you as opposed to eating the "normal" foods. Too many "fake" items needed to make it "diet" that are actually really bad for us.

I just cooked a turkey with oatmeal stuffing, when some people say there is no such thing.
I've never tried to eat oatmeal in a glass with cold water.
Refried oatmeal stuffing with cranberry sauce mixed in, yum!

Ontario sold out to the States before it really could become Canadian,
because the capital of Canada is in this province.
We get produce from California that is unripe produce from around the world,
that California irradiates to make it softer and more edible.
Local government just makes it more difficult for local farmers, and fishermen.

The talk this non-winter season, beyond having to come up with a new word for it,
was seeing all the robins that didn't fly south, being busy everywhere.

What is your favorite oatmeal recipe?

. . . What is your favorite oatmeal recipe?

I use it when making my meatloaf dinner.

 recalled a time in my life when I lived in California ... ALL of our oranges came from Florida. California oranges were shipped to Florida. Go figure

Modern autopsies show some humans have grown a new fat around their liver,
that scientists say comes from glucose-sucrose, and the "likes".
Don't forget, petroleum oil residues from manufacturing are listed as "organic components".

Sugar is a natural ingredient and is an energy food for humans,
and I eat a lot of that.
If you decide to try some oatmeal stuffing for a turkey or chicken,
yes, I know you're waiting breathlessly for these tips,
you can chop up onions very fine, add some Bits and Bites,
but just make sure you add some water to make some pulpy,
so you can use that to plug up the bird.
Oatmeal stuffing can come out like clumps of hard, oily oatmeal,
that could pass as a piece of turkey,
or individual pieces, hard and dry, or soft and moist.
Cranberries and blueberries mixed together are really nice, and not what you think.

After going back to the start of this thread, I'd like to add this.
Waterworld is one of my favorite movies, a hot, sunny, sweaty sea movie.
Just when being on the water is getting to be just on the water,
he dives underwater, seeing underwater cities, a wrecked civilization.
And when being in Waterworld is getting to be a little too much the same,
he runs into a wicked Dennis Hopper with a Mad Max road warriors super-tanker,
where an airplane is involved, lots of stunts, and then the movie settles down,
and they actually end up on dry land, very nice dry land, a very good movie.
I kept my VHS going just to watch that once a year,
but last week, oh yeah, I got it on DVD, as new, for $1.

I think it was the beginning of this movie that created such a critical backlash,
standing there, pissing, shown from behind. That's not Waterworld, that's a golden shower.

I love Ketchup ... and only buy the brand (Hunt's, locally) without the high fructose corn syrup. Tastes better than the high sugar ones too.

I drink diet colas but only those with sucralose ... cannot tolerate aspartame (bloats, gas, etc). Mostly water or iced tea (unsweetened, of course).
