Chamillionaire Is My New Favorite Southern Rapper

I had always heard of him, but after hearing how dope his debut was [from people on hear, and on rapreviewsdotcom], and hearing him talk about stuff and perform on 106 and Park, I decided I'd go and pick it up. The Sound of Revenge is reeeeal nice. He's lyrical, he can sing (think of 50's singing voice, but better), and has a real knack for making good chorus'/songs. Plus, he's original, something I think that lacks in hip hop. He does NOT sound like anybody else, in my opinion.

With all do respect, (and since this is the Debate forum), can we even consider Rap a form of music? Sure it is entertainment for troubled teenagers or white suburban boys, but is it music? Now of course I know that it is indeed considered music, and the "Rap" genre grosses billions of dollars a year. I personally however could not sit through a whole rap song without going through convulsions. So back to my original question... Can you actually consider rap a genre of "music"?

Note: I already know the answer, I just want to hear why people find it so entertaining? Because that is what music is... A digital form of entertainment.

I'm a bit confused why you ask if rap is a musical genre, when you yourself state that it is.

And why could you not sit through an entire rap song? Are all rap songs alike ? Is there no diversity among rap artists? My guess is that you are only exposed to rap when it comes in it's most commercial, stereotypical and boring version. I argue that it is impossible to dislike an entire musical genre/style because there will always be some experimental artist who will approximate a genre of ones liking.

I like rap/hip hop. That doesn't mean that I like 50'cent. Troubled teens and suburbans may enjoy the fantasy bling bling, but there are plenty of rap artists who do intelligent things, as in all other genres of music. There is rap about minority struggle, political unjustice, love, desire, evil, hate, good - as in all other genres.

Love of music transcends genres as you will surely agree

I asked it in a more metaphorical sense. Yes, I know it is a genre. However I was just curious as to why teens and adults alike find the genre entertaining? And no, because I dislike the style of music, I have never heard of anything other than the commercial "artist", because that is all you hear on the radio. (Actually that may change when I get Sirius!) It's just that I love almost all forms of music, however I despise anything close to rap.

Well we can conclude that commercial mainstream radio is evil by any musical standart.

As a curiousity, you listen to metal , how do you feel for Rage against the Machine ? For me it's an early musical influence and they are classified as "rapcore".

In my view it's sort of like commercials, you dislike them all except the one which is targeting you

. That was the way I got lured into listening to country anyways.
