FREEDOM TO GLIDE is the musical endeavor between Andy Nixon (lead guitar, acoustic guitar, vocals, bass, drums) and Pete Riley (keys, piano, vocals, sampling, programming). Their first EP ‘Rain’ is the epitome of how talented these gentlemen are. The collaborative affair started in a Pink Floyd tribute band Dark Side Of The Wall. It should be an indication of F2g's main influence. The opening notes of title-track (part 1) shift towards a familiar territory with undeniable GIlmour-sounding fluid guitar, distinctive vox and lush keyboards a’la Richard Right. The song unfolds through a serie of themes and passages. Then EP runs like one continuous piece of work, referring us to the concept from this release. Its idea supported by guest female singer Francesca Genco to add some warmth and depth. The material employs a degree of subtlety that’s wrapped in ethereal high and dramatic low. Throughout the content, production is crisp, giving each instrument the space to breathe and shine. Freedom To Glide have delivered a superb debut that deserves a lot of attention!.

When F2g releases their full-length studio album I’d certainly want to hear it! The sample video on the band’s website gives an accurate taste of what upcoming CD is on offer.

The magazine 'Prog' (part of renowned 'Classic Rock') are to write a feature on F2g in their 'Limelight' section. This feature will be in the May issue - to be out on 23rd May. Freedom To Glide have been interviewed by Alex Lynham...

F2g are thinking of popping a new track on their bandcamp site as free download (with the option to pay for it if you like it). So would you like to have a FREE Freedom To Glide song?

Let them know, and get all your friends to come on over and check out F2g too...

Well, plans as being hatched at the moment for another release - and it looks like this may take the form of a 'mini album' in it's own right (an exclusive collection of songs that won't be featured on the full-length CD itself - with the working title 'Precipitate').
F2g are also looking into releasing a few tracks for exclusive radio play - one of them possibly being 'When The Whistle Blows'. This is written about Robert Wilson and his time spent in the WW1 trenches. Robert Wilson was Pete's grandfather. More news on when and where these radio plays will be, as guys get them scheduled in.:)

After several spins, my conclusion has to be that ‘When The Whistle Blows” develops the story in a more relaxed way. Musically speaking, this sophisticated track utilizes some free-form ideas with the lyrical content giving further narration. Again, there’s lots of diversity and mood changes. Firstly, drawing reference to Elton John (‘Tumbleweed Connection’ era). The middle section is Chris Rea-like. We can also find spot hint to Gary Moore - in guitar solo... These influences are noticeable without being a nuisance. And I wonder where the next step will take us… :)

F2g are going to release another set of new compositions on CD and download (hopefully, in late August/early September) - entitled 'The Wait'. This should be the lead up to the Rain full-length album in the Autumn 2012.

Freedom To Glide will release ‘The Wait’ as a physical CD and Download format - on Remembrance Day, Sunday 11th November 2012. This date would be apt as all songs have a poignant connection to this special day.

‘The Wait’ is a six track-mini album with two songs off the forthcoming full-length album plus four exclusive tracks that won't be available anywhere else..

1. Wind And Gales (Rain pt.3)
2. Star Fall
3. Zero
4. Repose
5. Remember
6. Hypnotized

It should be on sale on the band’s Bandcamp site and everywhere else from iTunes to Amazon too.

P.S. As of today. Only nine CD copies of the ‘Rain’ EP left. And F2g won't be producing any more of this work. So…do not miss out!

The past months in 2012 have been a whirlpool for F2g. This emergent duo rapidly caught the attention of fans, media and prog-radio DJ’s. Whilst working on the first full-length release (due out in early 2013), Pete Riley and Andy Nixon have decided to create a successor to their debut EP which made such big waves…
Some material on ‘The Wait’ is again quite close to Pink Floyd, though in general Freedom To Glide are imposing their own stamp. There are various references to be found here. They swirl from balladic sections to mid-tempo dramatic grooves with a lot of breathing space. The opener (‘Wind and Gales’) gives a taste of things to come: a well conceived and executed 24-min. opus. Andy Nixon's voice is wrapped in strong harmonies to revel in a guitar web and hypnotic key layers, while atmospheric soundscapes and rhythmic parts afford an enthralling interplay that impresses with flourishes. Surprising variations of main motif are smartly arranged to build a recurrent theme. The ultimate credit goes to Pete Riley whose work presents a solid foundation without being dominant. The lyrics are representative and typify so apt for engrossing concept. One of the six tracks is instrumental. Definitely thumbs up! It’s not easy to pick out only one favourite, but I’m hooked by a powerful closing number ‘Hypnotized’ (stylistically, it’d be at home on ‘The Wall’)…

To sum it up, 'The Wait' has many elements needed to be a near perfect record. In my collection it deserves a special place (next to PF- back catalogue). Freedom To Glide is a unique band who can create historically based musical theatre geared towards the ears and mind. And I shall keep an eye out to see where F2g goes from here…

Last Sunday's PROG MILL Radio Show on Stafford Radio, which included an interview with Pete and Andy from FREEDOM TO GLIDE and the world premiere radio play of their new mini album 'The Wait', that was inspired by the experiences of Pete's grandfather who survived the Somme in the first world war.

You can download the podcast, split into one hour mp3 file ((including the F2G interview and the mini album in its entirety).

It will be repeated Tuesday night (13 Nov) between 10pm and midnight on www.abcradio.co.uk, between 10pm-11pm
