When we were in London during the summer of 2010, we visited a few museums ... Museum of London was one ... my wife is interested in Archaeology so favors those institutions. I can take about 45 minutes of 'bones n' stones' stuff and then I'm completely bored and will find other exhibits that interest me, such as automotive, mechanical, and electronics.

We were rather limited within London to those we could get to via "the Tube" and walking short distances as we did not have a car while staying in that city. And, we were only in London for 3 days ... most of the first day was arriving in the UK, customs and getting to Russell Square and finding our hotel.

The other mentioned above look very interesting ...

Hope you got to visit the Science museum Lars, a favorite on my when I was young. My mother used to take us to visited museums, partly because it was educational and partly I believe because in those days they were usually free.
There certainly are some unusual ones around. In a town in Spain near where we like to stay there is a cork museum. Have not visited it yet as I was afraid of getting overexcited. Give me a toy museum any day. Especially a teddy museum.
