• Welcome to the Pipe Organ Forum! This is a part of the open community Magle International Music Forums focused on pipe organs (also known as "church organs"), organists, organ music and related topics.

This forum is intended to be a friendly place where technically advanced organists and beginners (or even non-organists) can feel comfortable having discussions and asking questions. We learn by reading and asking questions, and it is hoped that the beginners (or non-organists) will feel free to ask even the simplest questions, and that the more advanced organists will patiently answer these questions. On the other hand, we encourage complex, technical discussions of technique, music, organ-building, etc. The opinions and observations of a diverse group of people from around the world should prove to be interesting and stimulating to all of us.

As pipe organ discussions can sometimes become lively, it should be pointed out that this is an open forum. Statements made here are the opinion of the poster, and not necessarily that of the forum itself, its administrator, or its moderators.

In order to post a new topic - or reply to existing ones - you may join and become a member by clicking on Register New User. It's completely free and only requires a working email address (in order to confirm your registration - it will never be given away!). We strive to make this a friendly and informative forum for anyone interested in pipe organs and organ music.

Yeah Braddah... and anything the heart desires....... did ya listen to the cornet on the solo division ? Sooooo perfect !!!! and the small plenum (8,4,2) on Choir ?

Now, after I 've seen this (Mr Bardon is a great inspiration also...) I must find a way to visit St.Maximin and ask for a permission to touch it and feel this greatness in my fingers.... just for 5 minutes.... not that it's something, as I would love to be there every day... but from nothing.... better 5 minutes than never !!

Thanks my friend .
I'm lookin' forward to your next post ! :)
I know you.... You'll always come back with something special he he (like the Sion beauty for exmple)

In the mean time I can "heal my wounds" with the small demo set for Hauptwerk.... 10 stops from the choir division.
Not as the real thing, but, close, if you add some imagination !! LoL

A grand beauty it is ... unusual method of coupling manuals together - never seen sliding keyboards before. I mean, it's quite logical keeping within the true realm of a mechanical organ.

Yes Panos, truly magnificent; the instrument and its setting, the organist and the music. The demonstration was fascinating, if only my grasp of French was better. But I am a product of the American educational system, so am lucky I can speak English. This is the second video on which I have seen the slide coupling. Interesting to watch and as Lars said very practical. Thank you for finding this treasure.

Hi Lars ! Hi Rob !
Thanks... I knew you'll love it as I do.....
Also remember that this church is starring on DaVinci code !!!!! St.Mary Magdalene is buried there.... so they claim anyway.

Sliding keyboards... Yeah. This is how it works. No coupler switch or stop !! I've seen this on Silbermann organs earlier than this one and one of them is with my all time favourite player Marie-Claire Alain. You must see her sliding a two manual Silbermann.

Let me find the video again for you if I'm lucky (I already have it downloaded for so long....)

OK, I found it here :

See how she does the.. "acouplement des claviers" at 10:00 min :)

Thank you again Panos. I cannot remember the source of the video I saw which showed the slide coupler, but it was not Marie-Claire's. I think it may have one which Nikam posted. i will try to check back and see if I can find it. That is interesting about the connection with the Magdalene. I have read in several sources of the legend that she died in France. Who knows?

Hi Rob,

Who knows... yes.
There are 6 pieces with MCA sliced on YouTube from the original video. Starring MCA and titled Organs, Toccatas, Fantasias. She follows Bach's path in Dresden, Rotha and elsewere. Mainly I see Silbermanns and Schnitgers.)))))))
Follow the above link you can get the whole 6 of them.
I'm doing a full file with them and probably I'll do a DVD for my personal enjoyment.

What an organist she is !!!!!!

I'm wondering : Did she ever play on St.Maximine's organ ? are there any videos ? recordings?

It's a very well known, multi covered "subject"... but,

Seeing Pierre Bardon play, explain everything and then seeing him perform and listening to the from console sounds.....

I just fell deeply in love with this instrument.
A magnificent beauty.
What you think?

Hi Peter, welcome on board ! :)

It's a good festival, indeed. I didn't know :) Good for her, though I didn't see much of her playing he he
Also this is a modern organ, but great sound as far as I can say from the little I've seen.
Thanks for posting this :)

To return to the main thread I found this :
