Windows media player, burning CDs

Is it possible to burn an audio Cd from an MP3 file? My PC/windoze med player "encountered an error" every time I select "Start Burn" then when I attempt to leave WMP it tells me it can't close while burning a CD, I have to use Control/Alt/del and select restart.

I'm using Win XP SP3, WMP v11. No problems burning as MP3s. Same results on both PCs (no difference between PCs, except one has a bit more RAM)

It is possible, Mike ... I do it all the time as I record/save in MP3 format on my Zoom H4. I am now using Win 7, but never encountered a problem burning MP3 on my previous XP machine. One possibly remedy could be in the brand name of audio CD you are attempting to burn to ... Sony blank CD's (imho) were/are the absolute worst (imho) ... Memorex and Imation are the ones I use now with zero problems.

In all fairness though, I do not use Windows media player ... I have licensed versions of NCH's software (WavePad, Express Rip and Express Burn) and use those for editing/ripping/burning.

Wondering if you have a corrupted WMP application ... or ... possibly your memory cache is capped out when attempting the burn?
You might also try a slower recording speed ... just ideas.

Is this a new problem or did this just start happening out of the blue recently?

Lars, I was trying to burn Audio CD format from an MP3 file, I'm going to try Colin's suggestion, I did download an app which claims to do the file conversion, which plays back OK on the PC and a Sony mini system but not on an older Technics player.

The Ashampoo burns mp3 direct from your PC file to a CD, but for best results do your down loads as FLAC and not mp3 the result is as good as a commercial CD, I have done hundreds Mike and as yet no failures

I'll have to check that one out, Mike and Colin ... sounds like a good back up play in case my apps fail at some point.

Don't recall any sites offering FLAC, I mainly use Amazon, Baroque Music Library or Youtube.

Does Ashampoo convert MP3 to Audio CD format? The 1990s era Technics CD players I have won't play MP3s hence my Query.

Yes it converts mp3 to audio CD to play on any CD player, mp3 @ 320 is not too bad but for a car you can manage with 192, not a lot of sites offer FLAC but if you torrent 99% of those are on FLAC. try @320 and see what you think.

Sorry Colin, I think we're at cross purposes here, I don't want to burn MP3 at any bit rate I want to burn from an MP3 file converted to the original Audio CD format as used for commercial CDs. The Technics CD players I have are from the 1990s and do not support MP3, only the original Audio CD format.

The app I downloaded, Gogo MP3 to CD burner, does a format conversion before burning, seems like it's not always 100% accurate however, some CDs play OK others don't, so I need to search for a better (but still free) app.

Mike if you want to burn from a mp3 file you will never be able to get a commercial quality CD for that you need FLAC, all you will be able to do is burn at what ever rate the mp3 file is at 128-192-320 etc.
Now in Ashampoo if you load program and from the menu on the left choose option #3=burn or rip then select from new menu as shown the 1st option “create audio CD” Then load required file from your PC, insert blank CD and burn. The result will be a CD that can play on any Player no matter what age (mine is a technics of about 1991-2 vintage)

This reminds me of the old TV sitcom, "Never mind the Quality, feel the width" from the late 60s. (some episodes on youtube)

I'm not too worried about quality with my ears, I just want to be able to burn an audio CD format from an MP3 file, so I can play the CD anywhere.

I'll try Ashampoo tomorrow, getting a bit late here now.
