The olympic farce gathers momentum

The whole thing is getting further out of hand, under UK legislation enacted in 1995 certain words can not be used in branding or advertising, so if you open a Cafe in some out of the way location after the law was passed and call it "The Olympic Café" you could be fined up to £20,000; the following could go down like a lead balloon at yer local chippy

At the 40 Olympics venues, 800 retailers have been banned from serving chips to avoid infringing fast-food rights secured by McDonald's.

Words fail me!

More overreaction, some open spaces with good views for binoculars/telescopes overlooking Olympic venues are being closed off or hoardings erected to block the view. Is there no end to the money grabbing mentality, they're getting worse than bankers.

The "chips" vs "McDonalds" is a real hoot ... chips is a staple in the UK and has been around far longer than McD's - Sorry, but Fish n' Chips in most any pub is far better fare than any McD frozen/unthawed/nuked substitute. There's just no comparison, and McD never lost money over this ever before - before the Olympics Games of Summer Two Thousand Twelve.

Oh crap, there is someone knocking at the front door ... must be the olympic committee for violating their sanction against certain words ....
Time for a drink ... :alc:

Just to prevent any confusion among the colonials ;) British chips = fries to you, your "chips" = crisps to us.

I've seen one report since which suggests that there may be some sort of climb down when it comes to Fish and chips; probably due to the English prior use of the term chips.

Yes, fish and chips will be served. They realised that the British would not be denied their nation dish. Better than they reconstituted rubbish from Macslops.

Seen the Olympic torch twice today. At our village this morning and outside the office at mid day. I can understand some of the disabled runners only doing a short stretch but 300 yards for everyone is ridiculous. I remember as a kid the athletes used to run miles, and there was non of this hopping on a bus malarkey. I suppose all the workers from Coco Cola, Lloyd's bank etc can't run very far.
