Welcome Corin to the forums. First off I am a classical approach vocal teacher not a pop coach except for some broadway styles. IN general not too bad: but you need some resonance in your voice quality. I feel and see you reaching and lose your quailty in-stead-of being on top of them and therefore tend to be alittle flat on your higher notes. How old are you?.......Maybe a few exercises will help you out. ( if you can afford a voice teacher for awhile that would definately be an asset)
FIRST support your voice from your diaphram not your neck muscles ( if you are not sure what that is send me a mail ). You must have a good supply of air regardles of what style you are singing.couple of ways to strengthen that muscle and increase your air supply/control...1....take a deep breath ( like a baby breathes ) keeping your mouth open, put your teeth together and slowing with steady pressure force the air out of your lungs COMPLETELY even if you turn blue in the face. when you take a deep breath..think of expanding your chest and adb cavities... belly button goes out and side expands...LOOK IN A MIRROR....repeat this exercise a number of times a day.......2.. another good one is to lay on the floor.. place a few books(3-4 textbooks) over your belly buttom..now when you beath raise them up even and steady without them falling off.....this helps you control your air suopple in an even steady measure......I KNOW THEY SOUND SILLY BUT THEY WILL HELP...as the vocal chords must have a steady even supply of air to vibrate properly..... 3. To help with resonance try lowering your head below waist level and singing..this will force the sound to resonate and you will feel a little tinge near your nose some too... there areas where notes tend to be their best..i.e. chest registers, head registers etc.. no way should your neck or throat be tight or squeezing sensation..keep that area relaxed as best as you can.

Thus should help you out some. Let me know how it goes. Hang in there and keep working with your music you have a basic beginning now do something with it. btw.. I believe there are a couple of vocal coaches on youtube that have basic vioce lesson videos which I am sure would help you.

Hi Corin,

I too think you have great potential in singing. Besides the items that Bill mentioned above, I had great difficulty understanding the words of either song - I got bits an pieces of some words, but most were unclear. When singing, one needs to pay good attention to diction and the pronunciation of the words ... keep the tongue at the bottom of the mouth as much as possible, which in itself forces better dictation.

Having voice lessons is a must if you intend to make money in this venture ... it's difficult, at best, to self teach ... even the pros have vocal coaches.

Keep up all the great work ... the potential is really there.

Some exellent advice there from people who know what they are talking about. May I suggest also that you practice good diction in your everyday life, so that it becomes second nature. Best of luck.
