Musical Awarness

John Williams is one of my favorite film composers, going back to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind",
an album my brother bought back then.
It would be interesting to know how many scores he scored after scoring the gig.

It's kinda hard to avoid his works when that's what's constantly being played ;) But no seriously the symphony orch. at my school wanted to play the main theme from "The Patriot" for the winter concert so I said okay. Then as it turns out, one of the middle school bands is playing Hedwig's Theme from Harry Potter. One of my favourite things as the high school music teacher is that I get to go down to the middle schools and play with them. I take a few members of my band to each school and we just have a blast. I think it's a great thing because we want to encourage participation in music and the arts and I've found that when myself and my assistant band director go down and met them on a one-to-one basis, on *their* home grounds, they realize that you know we're not the boogie men and high school band isn't too bad. It gets incredibly hectic because there's eight middle schools in the area that my high school feeds from but that's fine we love to do it, and it is truly an amazing thing. It's really awesome too when I go to the middle schools and I'm playing with them and I discover one of the kids that the music teacher there is constantly telling me about who needs more challenge, and I get to extend to them a "special" invite to come play with the high school music programs. I encourage all of the middle school musicians to talk to me (or their band director) and see about playing with us.
