The oil was sold off some time ago. As far as passports are concerned, theoretically yes, otherwise it will be another open border for immigration.

CD. The biggest inequity at the moment is that the Scots can vote on English matters but the English can not vote on Scottish matters. The North is highly subsidised with free prescription (£7.00 an item here) and free university places (£9,000 a year here)
plus a host of other benefits. Their only hope of survival would be membership of the EU, but of course it would be a condition that they joined the Euro. I think most English people would support a YES vote.

teddy

Well, just like Ireland then - It had to join the EU for its very survival...

With Ireland they had a referendum, and voted no. So the government kept holding referendums until the people got it right and voted yes. Now most of them wish that they had stuck with the original vote

Thank you Teddles - Now I exactly recall all those referendums until the constituency "got it right"...

New client today. He has a dream job. he is a security officer on freighters off the Somali coast. He is armed and instructed that if attacked by Somali pirates he is to blow the **** out of them, and ask questions afterwards. I am applying for a job with him.

Who was it sold to????

Just heard some joker on TV say that half of all people in NZ of working age had difficulty in reading so that means all over the age of 16, accounts for the delays in receiving replies to letters and emails when sent to government depts??

Can' remember Colin. Some foreign country which makes a profit by selling it back to us I expect. Literacy levels have dropped alarmingly in this country. Seems to go hand in hand with lack of discipline at home and at school.

So the Scots would not benefit at all from the oil revenue ?

I was under the impression that The UK received at least royalties from the fields that were in its territorial waters, It makes you wonder why countries let the oil companies get all the profit surly there would be enough know how in the UK to drill and manage its own oil.

All those sorts of things have been neglected here, same as manufacturing, although we still have some of the best engineers. Latest news is large gas fields off the coast which would mean independence and great wealth for us all. Am holding my breath.

Fracking to produce gas which would gives us back cheap power is being held up. Some people are afraid it will produce earthquakes. Personally I am willing to take the chance. It will not be long before they start rationing electricity, especially in the cold of Winter, when we really need it.

Re my previous post on Europes largest onshore oilfield, Answer POOLE in Dorset, known as Wych Farm on the south side of Poole Harbour and on one of the islands in Poole Harbour. One of the oldest oil wells in UK is at Kimmeridge about 15 miles away from Wych Farm, produces shale oil mainly used for lubrication IIRC, It was operational during WW2 and still going.

It's very well hidden, unless you know exactly where to look you'd not know it was there. You can see both Wych Farm and Furzey island from the air, and Google satellite view, but if you go to street view all you see is trees - no street view of the island though!
