Christ the Saviour Cathedral Choir - Moscow

    Hello gentlepeople,

Here's alittle tidbit from a concert earlier this year:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lttt_IKvPg
*If a man wants God to hear his prayer quickly, then before he prays for anything else, even his own soul, when he stands and stretches out his hands towards God, he must pray with all his heart for his enemies. Through this action God will hear everything that he asks* -Abba Zeno-

*Protagoras: "Truth is subjective. What is true for you, and what is true for me, is true for me. Your opinion is true by virtue of its being your opinion."

*Socrates: "My opinion is: Truth is absolute, not opinion, and that you are in absolute error. Since this is my opinion, then according to your philosophy you must grant that it is true."

Just a shame they sing in Russian and not a more universally understood language. Lovely sound though, and impressive that in the audience it's standing room only!

Are you part of that choir?

Simply amazing sound. Also, love the conductor's conducting

Sorry to disappoint you - there are no pews in the cathedrals or churches in Russia - there can be some benches along the walls. This particular church is undergoing renovation so there were some chairs for people to sit on.

Excellent! Seriously, even if I couldn't understand a word that was said, the sound was good. Which goes to prove that music is a language understood by all.

The choir conductor studied with the Russian "majordomo" of choral conducting, whose name is Nikolai Matveev who was an Architect by profession! And our conductor is a practicing specialist of Internal Medicine also

Absolutely! Music is a universal language. In regards to the music we sang at that concert, it was based on the words found in the Liturgy and Psalms of the Orthodox Church. I'll be sending you a private message.

The Patriarchal Choir of Christ the Saviour Cathedral did a benefit concert last night with some very varied music, amongst which we sang a piece by Georgii Sviridov entitled "The Mysterious Nativity" - Here it is sung by the Kiev Chamber Choir "Credo":

Lovely to see you singing again CD. As far as the language is concerned, sometimes you do not need to know what the words mean. And have you though about a Welsh male voice choir singing in French!!!!!

Interesting how the changes in time signature are marked; more easily seen (IMO) than the method we are accustomed to.

This is beautiful singing in a wonderful setting.

I watched "Mongol", an epic movie about the young Ghengis Khan,
and I can stridently say I'm glad the Rus took over, a much more refined language.
Mongol singing sounded like atonal Australian aboriginal horns, almost.
I agree, like I said, I didn't understand the first word of what was being said, but, the choir was still superb. Another good example of this is the Carmina Burana suite.

I could not have said it better myself - BRAVO!!!

Yes, I'm glad that the Rus defeated Genghis Khan - Of course, in time the Russian Winter and the size of Russia would have made it impossible for the invaders to sustain extended "war operations".
