Equality?

I see that the EU has forced Insurance companies to stop discriminating sexually when quoting premiums. This means that for example young women motorists will face increases of around 40% to bring their premiums in line with those of males of the same age, regardless of the fact that young males have far more accidents and more serious/costly accidents than the young ladies.

Do we see this as not so much driven by equality concerns but rather that the legislators mates in the insurance companies stand to make much larger profits than at present?

Cynical? Moi?

The avarage figures for car insurance AND life assurance are approximately a 25% increase for women and a 10% decrease for men. Womens annuities will decrease slightly and mens will go up. A really stupid idea. What next? No increase in car insurance if you have a drink drive record, because you have HUMAN RIGHTS?

This may be unbelievable to you but anyone in NZ can drive without insurance of any kind, 3rd party ins was once compulsory but not any more.

That sounds attractive Colin, until some sod in an old wreck who has no money, and therefore cannot be sued, crashes into you. Or does it make eveyone drive very, very carefully?

It means kids that have just got their licence get an oldish high powered car and do the mods using the money that should have been spent on insurance then cause an accident for which they do not have to pay you can sue but they have no money, so your ins co end up paying and you loose your no claim bonus, government after government have said they would bring back compulsory 3rd party but it never happens.

I can understand that. Why worry if you are driving a car paid for by the taxpayer
