Would you buy from a Farcebook page?

An argument is taking place on a model railway group re sellers using a Farcebook page instead of a web site to announce new items and take orders. General opinion there seems to be "no way José" . As many of we older bodies never look at farcebook we would never know about the items, so there go a load of lost sales!

I would also suggest that quite a few people would not deal with a business that relies on a social networking site to promote their goods. One comment was "but commercial web sites cost money" reponse "go buy a book on HTML for dummies", don't worry about selling on line, use the phone until such time as you're established

(Railway modelling appears to be mainly done by the less young generation, at least in UK, maybe as many as 70 - 80% over age 50 possibly due to a combination of nostalgia and, for many, more disposable income available. Once hooked though we carry on into retirement, but then bemoaning the loss of much of the previous income. So our outlook may be a bit biased against farcebook)

Pardon me if I offend anyone but those who buy from a farcebook page are themselves a farce...:shake::scold::banghead:

I would never even consider buying anything from a FB page, just from a privacy issue.

I do have a FB page, but I have exercised security options so that only those whom I invite can have access.

Never found the need to 'twitter' ... I leave that to the birds outside, and that is satisfying enough for me.

I don't do Facebook, I agree with Mike, it is a little unfair for those who don't use it.

Log onto FB maybe once a week to find out what the grandchildren are up to. I personally would not answer any adverts on there. The fewer people that have my details the better.

If the FB page looks good and maintained and there are a lot of positive feedbacks (legit ones of course) and the price is lower than a market one, I'd probably go for it in case it's about some simple goods, i.e. yes, I would buy a beanie but I won't buy iPhones on Facebook. Like it or not, if you don't want to invest in this type of things you are probably not very successful as a seller, which means people don't buy much from you, and I would start asking why and getting suspicious.

I think the biggest concern HS is privacy. You are better off buying from an official online site if you have any concerns about every TD or H having your details.

From what I have seen on the big www forums privacy is a thing of the past for FB but I suspect that applies to everything on the www

I believe you now have to specifically register for privacy rather than getting it automatically. You are public by default.
