Van Cliburn...Eternal Memory

Just found out that Van Cliburn left this transitory life because of Bone Cancer.

He won the Muscovites hearts with his interpretations of Chaikovskii's 1st Piano Concerto and Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto at the '58 Chaikovskii Competition - The main juror at that competition was Svyatoslav Richter.............And Richter was no slouch at the piano.............

Indeed a tragic loss. He used to live here in Tucson, many years ago, and played with the local symphony orchestra on many occasions.

An article from our local paper, the Arizona Daily Star.

Thanx Kh - Van Cliburn's Rach 2nd. I heard on a recording when I was twelve and was so enamored of the romantic sweep being generated by that Texan...

Yes he will be missed. I remember hearing him play in 1960's in concert.. always inspired me to listen to him.
