With the demise of the Wimborne festival, some of the organisers are starting a new festival to be known as "Folk on the Quay" Poole Quay that is , weekend of June 29/30.

http://www.folkonthequay.co.uk/

Open air and pub performances, Spiers and Boden headlining probably the top Folk duo in UK (also founders of Bellowhead)

3 street stages for dance, with views across Poole harbour (second largest inland harbour in the world).

Sounds good Mike. Plus the venue looks ideal with the view across the quay.
I did spend one memorable weekend there way back in the fifties when in the forces.
We had a great time and if I recall we spent a lot of our time in The Jolly Sailor bar.
I dare say that it will now be a much changed place since then.

Excellent google views. Lovely place. There has been changes from what I can vaguely remember. It is modernised as has been the case in most places through the years.
However some of the best and happiest days of my youth were spent in and around Devon and Dorset.

Saw in today's local paper that the Wimborne Folk Festival has been rescued, the council have stepped in with a grant, so June 7/8/9 weekend for that.

A fair number of dance teams booked already, concert performers fully booked.

The new incarnation is most welcome, the show must go on, music festivals are the biggest platform for artist and audience both, the festive culture must survive and grow...

Speaking of folk music and great performers, this song--by the inimitable Joan Baez--is for all those "patriots" who, throughout history have been so quick to sending off other parents' sons and daughters to war without experiencing any of the dire, life long consequences themselves. Allow me to introduce you all to Dubya, Cheney and Wolfowitz, some of the greatest "arm chair warriors" America has ever produced. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=_E9Nu8JinM0

A very evocative piece Steve sung by one of the great protest singers.

Anyone down this way should visit the Broadstairs Folk Festival. Running from the 9th to the 16th of August it tends to take over the whole town.

It is good to know that there are still folk festivals going on. It would be shame if they just stopped.
