What is a good Electric Violin for beginners?

Hi my name is Matthew,

I want to start learning the violin. Though because I live in an apartment, the hours I can play and the amount of noise I can make is severely limited. Hence I am looking for a good beginner electric violin that I can practice on. Essentially I am looking for a violin that when you plug in your headphones, will only play sound through your earphones.

I would check with your local Music store to see what is available.. many purist will laugh at you but do not let that sway you.. One has to do what one has to do.. I use virtual organs and Casio keyboards for the same reason and it works fine for me. I believe they are rather pricey so check around.. I am sure the amplifier is more important than the make as far as sound goes for electrified.. Enjoy. I played viola and string bass in my younger days. Try google, bing etc too.... not sure about amazon, ebay a possibility

As I have posted here before I bought one for my daughter, for the same reasons. I paid about £80.00 for hers which included headphones alough to play without them you really need an amplifier and speaker. Quite a good idea and as she played a normal accoustic one with the school orchestra she had the best of both worlds.

Some retail shops may also offer a 'rent to own' option ... make sure it's "electric" and not "electronic" though.

As a former Allen Organ installer, I had numerous requests for headphone capability in the concert halls, so that the organist could practice without having to drag the console out onto the stage and plug into the massive speaker systems.

Unfortunately, there is no way to put headphones on a pipe organ. Well ... there is, but the pipes look funny with those large earmuffs on them ....
