Children need to be protected by a proper full Risk Assessment if they are to do normal educational things like standing on tables and hurling food at each other at meal times. Not only does the food need not to be offensively dangerous but the table they stand on needs to be strong and stable, medical facilities need to be close by at all times, and counseling must be available for anyone who thinks they have in some way "lost" in the battle - they must be helped to understand that this is a team activity and that everyone has come out equal. Training should be given to help the teams hold the food properly and to know how to throw it without straining muscles or joints.

In fact this should be made an electronic activity that can be more safely carried out on phones and tablets.

In view of the current obesity problems maybe issuing face masks to the children would not only reduce the risk of injury but also reduce the risk of overeating.

and I thought are pollies here in Oz were crazy!

I think they might reevaluate their risk identification - if they had some real risks - ie bushfire or redback spiders!

It is frightening the way we pander to stupidity. The more we do it, the more we activly encourage the morons to pass on the blame for their own mistakes. We know tea will be hot and setting ourselves on fire will harm us.
