Went round to see a neighbour who keeps bees and examined a hive (empty) to see how easy it would be to build. Attending a meeting and an exibition next month to obtain more information. Meanwhile I have a list of books to study. I was plesently suprised at the relatively low start up costs (£50.00 for a full protective suit, new) and the helpfulness of everyone I have met. His garden is only about a third the size of mine and has more houses around it so my garden should be suitable for at least a couple of hives.

Its these sort of snippets which are fun.

There is a new sort of wheat being developed. The good news is that it is being done by cross pollination rather than genetic modification. I is reckoned that there will be a 30% increase in yield and it is drought resistance. just goes to show that GM is not the only answer.

I have been planning a spot for my bee hotel which I got for my birthday. A great idea for anyone, however small their garden, and who would like to help the bees. As small as a bird box and great fun. I will post a picture once it is up.
