Pathetic

I've just read that the bridge has won some architectural award for the South West. There is a very large marina and boat park in the bay beyond the bridge, it's causing just as much havoc for the vessels going in and out, that many opf the boat owners have moved their boats away from the marina and moorings, some to other places in the harbour not requiring bridge lift access, some have left Poole altogether, going to Lymington, Isle of Wight and points east.

Mike I think when it is up and running it could be a stunner but it may look different in the flesh so to speak

Colin, it's been "running" for a year now and rarely goes a week without a failure, the old bridge with traditional workings has run for 87 years with very few failures, as with so many things these days it is probably way over engineered, mechanical workings are proven and are robust enough to do the job repeatedly for years, you don't hear reports of Tower bridge failures! Hydraulics and software would not seem to be capable at the present "state of the art"; for a lifting bridge reliability must be the first consideration, not fancy unproven "high" technology.

The Unions are trying to take over the Labour Party again. I suppose that now Mrs Thatcher is dead they are feeling brave again. The worst thing is that the Conservatives are attempting to set aside the human rights act so they can deport some of the terrorists that the EU say shoul stay here but we want to get shot of. However the Liberals want them to stay here because they have -human rights. Human rights to bomb and kill us while we feed, clothe and house them. Gutless? Certainly in my boof.

Rather than let us build the replacement power stations we need the EU have come up with a wonderful idea. They will ration our consumption. It has been possible for some years to control electric aparatus remomety through a mains commection provided it is fitted with the appropriate mechanism. So the EU want to fit all household equipment with these devices so they can swith them off in the event of over consumption. Fridges, freezers, cookers etc. They also want us to build another 7,000 windturbines. Yes. Those useless things that don't work when the weather is very cold, and catch fire when it is too windy. I wonder if our gutless goverment will agree to these steps.

Just a bit of useless info that I picked up:

The Earth receives enough energy from the Sun in one hour to provide all of our energy requirements for one year.

I'm sure that will be a big help in the UK. I think it must work in reverse there ie UK gets a total sun allowance (as allowed by the EU, don't want to over consume) in 1 year to provide 1 minute of energy requirements:grin:

Surely if the government used the cost of building wind turbines to provide us all with solar panels
A They would be more efficient at producing power
B Maintenance would be almost zero
C They would not be such an eyesore
D We would not have to pay a GREEN TAX to subsidise them

A new tech solar panel is not far away just like a thin sheet of plastic so it can be shaped

I see that there have been large demonstrations in France regarding the move to allow homosexual marriage. Nobody has accused them of being homophobic. Most homosexuals I know believe that it is not necessary and to alter the meaning of an established word and is ridiculous. Marriage means a man and a woman and nothing else. Its a bit like deciding to call cricket football from now on. Why when apart from a very few extremists everyone is happy. So why is our stupid goverment hell bent on this project when there are far more important matters at stake. Pathic smoke screen springs to mind.

Further to my post re the problem bridge I mentioned
The councillor responsible for transport/highways etc is quoted as saying if she had bought something with as many defects she would return it as NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE or words to that effect.

Some of the opposition councillors are calling for her to resign because of her "unfortunate" words. SHEEEEEEEESH. The local paper has numerous people writing in saying "why should she resign for telling the truth?" My thoughts exactly!

Here homosexuals have the same rights as everyone. Civil ceremonies give them the same rights as a married couple regarding inheritance tax etc, and will probably have the same tax breaks as a married couple when that is re introduced. Adoption is not a problem for them and is allowed, even in some cases encouraged. The only thing they can not do at the moment is "marry". Most of them are not bothered about it and accept that there is a difference. So why is this pathetic government making such an issue about it and not geting on with the more important things..

They have more rights in NZ eg they can call me hetro but I can't call them homo or lesy? I have to say gay

I refuse to use that word. I find it offensive. Whats wrong with homosexual or lesbian.
