Win 7 (professional) user here. Upgraded from XP in 2010 when my old machine displayed the blue screen of death too many times.

Staying with Win 7 and not upgrading to Win 10. Happy with 7 and see no need to have the latest and greatest of things. I also drive an 11 year old car.

Getting fed up with G Mail. The adverts which keep re occurring and which they tell you will not reappear if you dismisss them keep coming back time and time again. Also it does not appear possible to totally block senders, which you can do with Hotmail. On G Mail if you block them they just keep reappearing, but in the SPAM folder. I sometimes have 20 - 30 spam messages which annoys me. Hitting BLOCK just diverts things to SPAM. Any suggestions gratefully received.

From what I can make out, using Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoomail or any similar freebie invites spam, I use one of the Virgin media cable ISPs and Thunderbird, I rarely if ever get any spam and no adverts, maybe once a month a bank I've never had an account with will tell me there is a problem with my non existent account. OK so I pay for my ISP a package deal with phone, I get around 90M download and 6M upload, due to be upgraded to about 150M in a few weeks.

@teddy I have been with gmail for years and up until recently have been quite happy but now they have changed the location of ‘contacts’ which when you >contacts you have to wait for them to d/l from mother cyber space now @a speed of 5mbps it is a bit of a wait on the other hand if you >compose and enter the first letter of the recipient you are provided immediately with a pop up list of possible contacts so not really a large problem 99% of the time.
Regarding adverts, I get none at all on the page, my spam folder has at the moment 5 emails in it there are hundreds in the trash folder. Quite honestly it beats all the others I have tried over the years. Why are you concerned with how many are in the spam folder, there is a option of deleting all spam the same with the ‘trash’ folder you can empty if you want to.

    Hej Teddy

Does your ISP have webmail service as part of the monthly fee for internet access?

I've been using Gmail for years when on travel ... I forward my other email account to the Gmail one as it's easier to access like when I went abroad in 2010.

Have not had any problems with ads on Gmail ... but then I have it severely restricted as to whom has that Gmail address anyway.

Thanks guys. I don't pay for a service so I suppose I cant complain. I may switch back to Hotmail just from frustration even though I believe G Mail is better in some ways. I just find it annoying that it is impossible to block people you don't want contacting you, particularly when it occurs over and over again

Note that with GMail you can right click the spam folder and delete it all without even looking at it.
