Do you like the Titanic Soundtrack?
I have to admit I liked it when it first came out, then the songs were very overplayed and commercialised, now I really can not stand to listen to it.

Am i the only one feeling like this?

Well, for me it comes down to the fact if one is a fan of James Horner or not. He has never been at the top of my movie composer favourite list, but the soundtrack for Titanic does have beautiful moments and is a wellcomposed album. But i would say he made more memorable stuff for a movie like "Glory".

As a James Horner fan I have to say I found the tracks very much adding to the 'Titanic' experience for me. He has such a long list of successfull work but dare I say his work on childrens movies had me hooked years ago, especially his work with 'The Land Before Time' series of movies.

He has shown himself to be very capable across many of the movie genres which a fair few donnot always do with such regular success.

I love the music before but I think it is the hype that caused me to hate it. During the Titanic rave, the music keeps on ringing my ears until I started to get tired of listening to it.

I agree that it has been over played. I think that most people just listen to the popular songs and dont pay much attention to the instrumental tracks which in my humble opinion can move you more than the lyrics of some of the songs. I dont know why some people just dont get that music creates the feeling and the words add to it. I thought it was a decent sound track over all.

The soundtrack is commercialized and can be tiring especially when you hear it everywhere, everytime. This was during and immediately after the movie was made available in movie houses. But come listen to it some time again. No one can deny the quality of the music and the greatness of its composition. I guess, if only the movie was not such a big hit, people will consider the soundtrack as classic.

I havent listened to the soundtrack for years now as I felt exactly the same when it was first released. I must have a good look for it though as I just adore this work. The thing that strikes me is that I don't think this just happened with this soundtrack but rather many take the same route of being overplayed and becoming eventually disliked.

James Horner, well...

I was a fan of his up until the late 80's, when I start to spot self-plagarism to an un-parallelled degree. I can point out places in cues that were directly lifted from one movie to the next, with only a slight change in orchestration. This is lazy composing, in my honest opinion.

Now, the score for "Titanic" is good, no question; in fact, all his scores are always appropriate to the action and mood of a given movie at any given moment, and I did find no agregious examples of self-plagarism in it as I do in most of his work; but I can identify his work after listening to about a bar and a half, even if I've never heard it before. Directors hire James Horner because they want a James Horner score.

Let's face it, he won that Oscar for "Titanic" riding on James Cameron's coat-tails...

I haven't a copy of the whole score but remember watching the movie and being totally taken in mostly because of the music that accompanied the action.
In that respect it gets a thumbs up from me as it even made me cry at the end. I think the music actually made it better than just a good movie and hence it's popularity.

Yes I do feel that way. At a job I had in the 90's, a coworker constantly listened to that music. It was great but I think it's overplayed.

It's a good score. The Dion song was not that strong to start with and was killed by overexposure though.

This kind of thing often happens, a song:
10 years ago's idol still exist today?

I guess it may be called funny my experience with this Horner's score, because there was so much fuss about it when it was released, that I started hating it even without ever having listened to it. I thought: "Oh Gosh, this must be some kind of pathetic commercial thing; better avoid it!". It was several years later, when I re-discovered Horner (for personal reasons, I must admit), that I grew curious to listen to his Titanic score, which I did and wasn't disappointed. Some cues are really beautiful. Horner is one of the world's top composers, as far as film music goes. I know he's rumoured to be a very shy and difficult person to deal with, but he's talented.

Can't watch the film at all, it's a story I never liked. I watched the predecessor, "A night to remember" ages ago and for some reason got very upset about it. It's been a thing with me ever since....although, try watching the film while using rewind.......everybody lives and the ship doesn't sink!

Another minor point is my brother's Godmother's son (work that out) was in the film. Played Col. Archibald Gracie (Bernard Fox).

You've never worked with me then . If I have half the chance I'd avoid me!

I love the song "My heart will go on". I have the CD of all the Soundtrack of Titanic, and in this song is added some of the most popular sentences of the movie... amazing!
I like it very much. I haven't listened to it since a long time ago, really...
