Same is true here across the pond ... the legislature votes themselves 15% raises and gives us pensioners on Social Security a mere 1.5% raise.
Our local city town clowncil recently gave themselves a 39% raise in pay ... yes, 39% ... most private sector employers handed out 3 to 4% raises.

That and now has a stupid trolley that only goes 3.9 miles and NO funding in the budget for continued operation next year, all while we are $30 million short for this year.

Guess it's the norm for all government, sadly.

I am voting UKIP from now on. At least if we pull out of the EU that will be one less gravy train. Plus we might stop trying to look after the world, instead of our own

Great point, Teddy ...

I found it maddening to read a few months back on how our local clowncil spent several hundred thousand dollars for a report that informed them that our roads were in disrepair. All one has to do is drive about for half a day and see that same thing - yet we had to pay for this clowncil to "see" and recognize the problem.

Here, it's a nationwide problem - the US spends billions every year in foreign aid, yet our own roads and bridges are crumbling - and then we are told that there is no money in the budget for road repair even though we pay a road tax on each gallon of petrol purchased at the pump.

But what can we, as citizens, do about it? We can rally and protest I suppose, but it doesn't seem to help. We are told that we don't understand the big picture, yet nobody can actually define what that 'big picture' really is.

Lars, go to France or Spain. The roads are excellent, even the minor ones. In England they are falling apart and reminiscent of Africa in places despite fuel and road tax.. Yes, our money goes on foreign aid as well. Obama seems very keen on the EU. Maybe he wold like to join it. Then you really would find out what the word WASTE means

What is UKIP?
How would you like a job where you can retire after 9 years on full pension and perks aka NZ politicians and on top of that you will be found a nice cushy job that does not require much input but another load of perks

Non of the other political parties will agree to a referendum on our membership of the EU as they don't believe we are capable of making an informed decision. The Tories promised a referendum and then changed their minds. They have now promised one in 2017 but only if they get back in.
