Quimby Pipe Organ company just completed a IV/57 at Catalina United Methodist Church here in Tucson. It replaced a III/34 Reuter that was built in 1957. Most of the old pipework was able to be re-used in the new instrument.
This new instrument now becomes the 2nd largest pipe organ in our town ... the 1st largest is a III/65 Aeolian Skinner in an Episcopal parish.
Ken Cowan played a magnificent Dedicatory Recital this past Friday evening. The church was packed full.
Today (Saturday) there was a Q & A with the builder, Mike Quimby, and their lead voicer, Eric Johnson, fielding questions about the organ.
We also got to see a powerpoint presentation of the complete restoration of the St. John the Divine organ (NYC) which was done by Quimby, Warrensburg, Mo.
Mr Cowan's program:
In the 2nd half of the program:
The organ was first played, and dedicated, on Easter Sunday.
