Does music affect the mood?

Dear musicians,

I need your help! My bachelor thesis focuses on the interplay of musical activity and aspects of mood and mental state, and I am looking for participants to aid in my research.
Everybody who makes music is welcome to join and fill in the questionnaire that can be found under the following link:

https://edusurvey.aau.at/2012/index.php?sid=53151&lang=en

Filling in the entire questionnaire will approximately take 10 - 15 minutes.
Of course, your participation in this study is strictly confidential.

Thank you very much and best wishes,
Stefan

Stefan! Your interest in music looks interesting, and I will try your survey,
but I have some suggestions that might, as Jimi Hendrix forewarned,
not necessarily take you higher, but make you wider.

Daniel J. Leviten, a professor at the University of Montreal, if I remember,
wrote a book "This is your brain on music", a take-off of "This is your brain on acid",
an old American anti-drug message, showing a frying egg.
His book, as a scientific study, documents the effect of music on the human brain.

Farmers know the right kind of classical music makes cows more productive,
plants growing faster and healthier... wait... plants? As in vegetation?
Even as described in the hot best seller, The Celestine Prophecy?
I know tree blossoms fall and swirl around me, when I'm singing to the sky, so beautiful.

And please, I don't want to be confidential. I want to be reknowned.

Stefan! That was only getting more disappointing, so I cleared out, as the button allowed.
It was all medical, personal information you are seeking.
I looked at four pages and it was only personal medical information,
and then you had a new disclaimer about seeking more medical information.

Even your identification method is absurd.
Sure, I'm a Canadian, but only of Scottish Highland descent.
Canadian multicultural policy recognizes people from births all around the world.
As I say, there are more people from India in Ontario than there were natives, called Indians.
Asking age is also irrelevant.
Asking about being an alcoholic, drug user, vegetarian, tobacco smoker, is more relevant,
not only to what emotions are left to be influenced by music, but the music that is used.
I could also say you are asking for musicians to reply, famous for substance abuse, but no, not on Magle dot dk.

More than before, please consider my previous references.

I will check it out..... done survey..... There is a definite connection between mental, physical and psychological aspects of life in relationship to musicians... the mood many times is the main motivator for the performance outcome.IMHO Good luck with your thesis

Dear John,
your suggestion are very useful, thank you very much. Unfortunately, due to given standards by my supervisor I am not able to focus on every detail in this study. You are right, studies show that drugs can have a major influence on psychological aspects such as health. I will keep that in mind for further research. However, I decided to leave the drug topic for the above mentioned reason.
Regarding your questions about age... It is common to ask the participants for sociodemographic aspects to evaluate descriptive statistics. I do not want to identify. Furthermore, I am spreading this survey using different internet sites world wirde, this forum is not the only one.
I know that there are a four pages about medical aspects. The music categorization and music specific questions come right after that pages, I am sorry you missed it.
Thank you for your feedback though.

Kind regards,
Stefan

Now that I understand more of your intent, I'll give it a try.
I'm just very secretive about my physical self.
Do you know what a "north of Hadrian's Wall metabolism" is?
That's me and my clan, down to just me in North America.

I'll get some more cherry pop and ice cubes to give it a go.

That turned out to be okay, just no categories for spiritual applications.

I want to thank everyone who has already participated!
I hope it was interesting for you, too.

Dear John, thank you too for participating. I understand that some people want to know more about before they participate especially when there are some questions in the survey that ask for personal information e.g. your mood, mental state etc..
This is why I decided to check the forum for questions every now and then. Also, no question in this survey is mandatory. So if you really feel uncomfortable with one or two just skip them ;-)
Kind regards,
Stefan
